    Hi everyone!

I was wondering about the pros and cons of sewing for Babies and children regarding legal / safety requirements etc.

I am particular interested in making soft dolls and as a lot of you ladies have shops on etsy etc, perhaps you could steer me in the right direction.

I have read loads on the matter and to be honest found it really confusing about getting things tested etc.

If anyone has any real experience of what I would face in order to sell homemade soft toys, I would be very grateful if you could help me out.

Hi everyone - been just lurking for a while and need to ask a question. I haven't done much sewing for about 20 years, but there are things I need/would like to do now and the reason I don't is my old electric sewing machine. It is a Novum Newhome bought about 30 years ago and weighs an absolute ton!
I keep it under the stairs, but really it is almost impossible to lift and I know if I ever dropped it on my foot I'd be in hospital!
I made a superhuman effort to get it out a few weeks ago and now it's doing all loopy stitches on the back of the fabric I've sewn and I know the tension spring has had it (yanked by a small child years ago) so it's time to splash out on a new one - but which one?
Obviously I don't want anything heavy, I would like to get something for around £100 - but is that unrealistic?
It doesn't need to be an all singing and dancing model, as I mainly would like to make curtains, cushion covers, alter clothes and possibly make a few small craft items. My old machine does straight and zig-zag stitch, has a zipper foot and that's about as much as I've ever used or found out! Oh, and it has a foot pedal which I like using.
    I'd really appreciate your advice,
    Thanks.

Mine is a Janome 2200XT from here: http://www.sewingmachines.co.uk/Janome2220_info.htm

It has been great so far, plus it has lots of stitches, loads of feet and the company give you lots of free threads which saves quite a bit :)

I use my main email on my blog. How do you want to link? Do you want to include it in one of your posts of do you want it on the side of your blog so it is always there for people to click through to the other persons site.

If you post the link to your blog here I will follow you :)

My blog is my homepage on here. If you click on the user CP I think that you can copy and paste your Blogs address there. Sure thats what I did? Then anyone can find your blog.
If you want to see others blogs, as mentioned above, you can link to others with the Follow button, and can get updates from these blogs on your dashboard as well. I must admit I dont get any emails to me. But thats as I am rather slow at learning how to do these things myself. TEchnology is not really my game.

But if we all put our heads together we usually all come up with the answers.
I will have to have a think (if I can get my head around things) on how to do a Sewing Circle between us some how. I know that a few of us have been intouch with PM's then emails and helped each other out from there. So we should be able to work something out without breaking any rules from here. Least I hope so.
MSE is about money saving and not for profit so I cannot see too much of a problem if we are swapping, etc. However if we are selling off stuff then perhaps we would need to be off site. Sure the board would tell us if we did.
But I just thought that if we happen to want to get rid of, er, um, move on something, if we put it on our blog, then any one reading it would be able to contact us and say, yes please, I am interested etc? But we would need to think about what I mean. It only came to me the other day, when I realised that the majority of the people who have bought my things on fleabay have been from MSE as far as I can tell, so they have followed me from either here or my blog?
Right thats probably all very confusing. I need a cup of tea, a couple of paracetamol, and to get DGD her tea and ready for bed as early as I can, as I am tired. I have a bag thats just needing the lining sewing in and a strap. Need it urgently to be finished, but feel unwell and really need my bed too.! My arm is really, really bad today. Rain and holding DGD2 has added to it all nodout. I hate the rain it really affects me badly. So no Sewing for a while yet.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

On blogger you can turn email notifications on and off if you only have a few followers then you will not get many emails as your amount of comments will be lower.

I know other people have asked about having a thread for selling/swapping and they said no as it means sharing personal details it would have to be done off site either by email, blogger possibly? or through a social networking site like facebook. Other MSE threads have a facebook group where they swap and sell stuff or post links to interesting things. But that working would depend how many people are on facebook?

I have managed to put my blog as my home page so you can get to it by clicking on my user name. I would like the blogs I link to shown as a list.

    Thats a good idea.
I pop onto thier website quite a bit lately for ideas etc etc. Or just to read. Someone linked to something else once I think.

    Florenceem,
I have cervical spondylosis, and it affects my left side, all the way to my toes! The nerves are pretty shot, and the rest!!
I also now get sciatica in my right side, just to have another problem to work around! But I am still determind to keep smiling and carry on. (Its difficult at times though),
    :D

I state that a doll is unsuitable for under three years old.
