The Sewing Room

Now you see you lost me there. Not seen the news today/yesterday. Buried in my own world. Any tv is usually Scooby Doo for madam here!
Still very tired this morning, and didnt want to get up. Alas she is not going to let me have a lie in, infact the days I think she will she wakes me earlier and earlier! Then when I need her to be up, she actually sleeps in.!!
Sewing wise, I am not going to be doing much now, until Monday. I have the housework to catch up on, bags to pack, and we are off to see BF this evening, when the traffic for Silverstone has died down. (I cannot go towards the family as the roads are all F1 only, so My parents post will have to wait until Monday.). Will come back on Monday Morning early. So as not to get snarled up in traffic tomorrow.
Having hot and cold sweats!Eek, Hope its hormonal patches needing changing and not anything poorly.
Happy sewing, and thanks for the lovely comments and votes of confidence in my bits and bobs.
I love your bags MoolooMy DS lives in Silverstone so I can never go see him F1 weekend
I have not done much sewing this weekI don't know where the time is going
and to top it all I have to cover this this weekend as the wkend cleaner is off and the girls hate doing it after their shifts so mug here said I would do it
Must update my homepage so catch up with everyone laterGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

Any thoughts or opinions on Kate's yellow dress?
I adore that dress, I'd love one like it. I love shirt dresses anyway but I'm not usually a fan of yellow. Here's a pic for you MooLoo (one of the few it seems which doesn't show the wind blowing up her skirt!!)
A shirt dress is definitely on my list of clothes to sew because I find them so versatile, I practically lived in them a couple of years ago but they were mainly from Primark and fell apart so I'd like to make my own!0 -
Hi there ladies
. I'm after a bit more advice (again!). I cut the fabric for my first blind last night after I had sorted out my sewing box. I knew I would need to pattern match at some point and have put it together with the pattern matched. There is an overlap of about 15cm. Obviously, to match the pattern, I have to lay it with right sides up. How do I then join it so that the pattern stays together but the raw edges are hidden at the back of the fabric?
I know one of you will know the answer to this, just hope you're on today. I have thought of a way to do it but would like to do it the correct way as I don't want to waste the fabric or have it look a mess.

Not sure I'm going to be able to explain this very well but I have two methods depending on the fabric and pattern.
Place the fabric right sides together. Lay the fabric on the table so one wrong side on the table the other wrong side is facing you, right side in the middle. Lift the edge of the top piece at the edge to be joined enough to see the pattern. Slide the top fabric up or down till you match the pattern, PIN. Once you have the start at one end pin carefully along the seam allowance, looking and checking the pattern match as you go.
Turn the fabric the right way and double check. Depending on the fabric you could press. This will give you a sewing line guide when you come to sew.
When you sew the seam open every few inches or less just to check the pattern still matches correctly. Slow but worth it as sometimes the machine can pull the fabric through at different rates. Sew slowly.
Hope this makes sense.:o£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I lay all my curtains out on the floor, then I put my left hand side fabric face upwards. Then take the right hand side curtain, lay it over the top of the first fabric, and slide it accross turning under the excess fabric so that the top fabric(right hand piece) pattern matches with the bottom pattern. Then I tend to iron along that fold. If the pattern is large and a slip will obviously show, I tend to run a very light slipstitch by hand down the fold. Then turn the two pieces over again. Remove the excess fabric off of the left hand piece (which was your right hand), and the same for the other piece if necessary. Then I iron the two right sides facing together. This then gives me a sewing line. Sew the seam. Neatening the edges with either serger or zigzag. Press flat.
Turn to the front and remove any small stitches if they show.
Sounds a bit harder then it actually is HONESTLY.:DWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I love your bags Mooloo
My DS lives in Silverstone so I can never go see him F1 weekend
Thanks Hart, I have been mixing and matching bits of Cath Kidston fabrics, tanya Wheelan and then stuff from my stash to try and get the disired effect, (with the cheaper fabrics bringing the cost of the bags down to a saleable price.).
We will have to have a MSE cuppa and a slice of cake one of the days that your down to see your DS, although I am not always here at weekends. Usually go to see BF in Oxford.
I have not done much sewing this weekI don't know where the time is going

You sound like the old me. always saying I would do something when really I didnt want to do it. I am getting stronger and starting to say NO much more. Thats why I managed to sew for about 14 hours this week.

Oh thanks very much. Now I know what your on about. I have a lovely yellow dress. My BF quite liked me in Yellow, but havent tried it on since my new hair style and colour. mmmm Now I need the sun to come out so that I can wear it again.
I like shirtwaisters too, but havent had one in many a year.

Mind you that was when I was a lot younger, and serious about my sewing.:DWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Lovely makes, again. Cannot wait to see the mirror re done. Will that be on the Shabby chic pages.?When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

Hi all, I was just wondering, do you think wadding is essential with this pattern or could it be done without?

It would be very floppy without wadding. The wadding is being used to keep the bags shape.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
