I had seen a Vogue pattern I loved, and was trying to persuade myself that I deserve it as a reward for shortening 2 pairs of trousers for DH (a job I loathe out of all proportion to the actual work involved) but just could not justify the price.

But....on vogue.com at the moment, it seems that all patterns are $4.99, which is £3.04. So I have just very naughtily ordered 3 patterns that retail here for £14.75 each (total £44.25) for £18.29 delivered. Delivery is $15 for 3 patterns, but then jumps to $25.

As long as you make up the patterns into garments then its worth it. But if you sit on the patterns, like i tend to do :o then thats a different matter!
Now you will need to think about what to make them up in. Fabric from a stash, or do you have to buy materials.?
I have so much stuff, and I stupidly went and bid on some fabric from ebay yesterday, and have won it. ! a moment of naughtyness. So I will have even more in the stash! Oh dear. If I dont stop this buying of fabric we will be burried soon!
(But most of it was Cath Kidston and I do love her fabrics, and they do sell well.) Talking of selling the last of my bags on ebay has had a bid, only at 99p, with a day to go, so it looks like some lucky person is going to be getting a mooloo original very cheaply unless its viewed and shows much interest in its last day! :o Oh well, every penny counts and I need the space!
This means that I have got to concentrate on making a supply of things from my huge stash as soon as I get back off of holiday. Tonight I have some mending to do. While sorting DGD's stuff I noticed a few bits needing attention.
My inclination to sew I had earlier, has faded with the evening sun as I am exhausted from the day!. Mind you I have been on the go all day.

I have been re-organising my sewing collection (many years of being unable to pass a sale, including on holiday, giving pattern books a good home etc etc) and have actually sold some fabrics and patterns on Ebay. I am battling to resist buying on Ebay to fill in the gaps!

DH gets involved with packing when/if I sell anything, throwing in 'helpful' remarks about my collection, which until now I had largely managed to hide. Fortunately he was being so irritating that I caught myself just in time before I started being carried away with tidying, and I have a stash of goodies I'm keeping for me.

I'm telling myself that I need new patterns to kick start my sewing. All the makes on here are so lovely that I want to make pretty things, but I do need a couple of new things to wear.

I know Vogue designer patterns aren't a real yardstick, but is it any wonder that the young shop in Primark?

    Morning :D
Im hopeing today will be a better sewing day for me, yesterday I decided to make another Amelie bag with some lovely fabric that arrived from my ebay spend :o
I started fine but when I started putting the front pockets on I thought I had sewn the wrong peices on :o so I started to unpick it (all of the top stitching I had done as well as the peices attached to the front) it took me a good half hr as I didn't want to cut the fabric,my stitch unpicker is sharp and Im usually in a hurry so end up putting a hole in the edge. I looked at the instructions again and realised I had sewn the righ peices on after all :o:( Doh!
So far I have finished the front pockets and I have the back zip pocket to sew in then I can put it together and post som pic's :D
I hope every one has a great day (sewing or other :D)
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

    Morning everyone

Havent been on for a few days as had my birthday and was out and about enjoying myself. I got the walking foot for my machine from my Other Half but haven't tried it out yet. My son bought me a couple of bits of Cath Kidston for me to make myself some bags as when I went round his house the other day he had a brochure from the Cath Kidston shop showing her bags and I was saying how nice they looked.

I have been watching some videos on you tube to give me some ideas, then yesterday afternoon I went up and cut out a pattern to make a shoulder bag. Will post pics if it comes out ok.

I want to make two other bags as well, a shopping type bag and may be either a small one with two handles or another shoulder bag more like a square cross body one.

Cant wait to get sewing but will be busy today so will have to wait until tomorrow to get into it.

    Happy Birthday Rufus :)

Next week I am going to try and draw myself another pattern but I am very confused about how to do it! I am making a long floppy bunny for a little boy similar structure to a sock monkey with the long arms and legs but I want it to have a round bum if you know what I mean so I just need to figure out how to do that!

I could cry for you hart!

I knew a theatre wardrobe mistress who was on tour with a play in which an adult actress wore a sailor suit in bright blue with yards of white trim. The actress insisted that it had to be washed nightly, and as the blue colour ran horribly, the white trim had to be unpicked, then sewn back on. (The designer insisted that poly cotton that didn't run would be unthinkable.) One night as she sewed the last stitch she realised that she had sewn all of it onto the wrong side, and set to unpicking it again.

Wardrobe mistress is one of the least glamorous jobs in the world. I did it for a season years ago. I made a cardinal's outfit in pure silk red grosgrain with a really tricky white neck ruffle, for a huge actor. The designer then set about 'distressing' it to 'suggest corruption at the heart of the play', and the painstakingly sewn red silk was ripped, then attacked with a cheese grater, then sprayed with strong tea, and finally had ash from a coal fire rubbed into it.

I THINK I WOULD HAVE CRIED OR SCREAMED!!!

I know my cousin worked with a theatre company many years ago, but some how we were never really intouch. I had wanted so much to go and see what she did etc etc but I was busy running a pub at the time and never did. No idea what she is doing these days. But i wouldnt like to have to work that hard and have it desimated!

No sewing for me today. I have been talking and designing with my Mum, while we had a bbq and sat in thier kitchen/back garden. We have some really funky ideas for when i get started properly when I get back from my holidays.

We are going to practice with the Making Memories Slice, cutting out applique for my bunting etc etc. I am hoping it will save my hands as I get a bit shakey on my meds!.

    Morning everyone

I finished my bag yesterday that I was making with the Cath Kidston fabric.

There are some more photos on my blog. It was not too bad to make up but I think if I had had a proper pattern to follow it would have been easier as I wasn't too sure of how to assemble it in the right order making hard work of some of it which I am sure there would have been an easier way.

I have a shopping bag cut out now to make up using the green fabric with the roses on. I might do another shoulder bag as well, like a flatter one with a pocket on the side.
