Thanks guys i'll try a few cleaning tips first. Pootle didn't get your PM lovi but i have just sent you an e-mail today? I finally posted your hexxies earlier so keep an eye out in the post. So sorry they took me so long hun its been a manic time recently x x
I have a 10 year old Brother that comes with ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER OIL THIS MACHINE instructions, so best to check.
I know you've tried everything you can think of, but my thoughts are tension, or needle not sharp enough, or the timing (which is a specialist job).0 -
I made a very cute shrug for DD based on a bridesmaid dress pattern (for the long sleeved bodice). Used a funky patterened jersey material but it has stretch along the seams at the cuff and neckline.
Is it worth getting a rolled hem foot for my machine? Will it shrink back if I iron it? Never used jersey before.
Anyway, I have more shirring elastic and some rather sweet white cheesecloth type cotton for a quick shirred summer dress. Oh and I will be making more shrugs using my edited pattern too0 -

im not sure about feet but did you use a ballpoint needle? Pretty sure its a must for jersey. I dont think it will shrink back if you wash it. I would have thought it would go even more out of shape (although I could be wrong)0 -

My old sewing machine had a chart which showed which parts to oil occasionally. I never thought that you couldn't oil a machine. So best to check first. I'll change my post, I would hate to mislead anyone.
Cheers

A what needle? :rotfl:
I ironed it and its shrunk slightly. I'm just going to call them tulip sleevesIt's actually not that bad.
Just wrapping shirring elastic now. DH is off out so I have an hour or two to myself.0 -

I have had a succession of machines over the years, and this (which I still think of as new) is the first one that expressly forbids oiling. In fact if I had, it would have made my original guarantee invalid. I had never heard of such a thing either.0 -
I bought a desk off ebay last night, picking it up tomorrow night and I'm so excited! It's got a glass top on it (which I needed as I was scratching the kitchen table and the lounge table with my pins!), a three-drawer thing underneath and some shelves at the back, on top of the desk, with compartments and things. Yay!0

Annie, you must be thrilled with that. It is stunning, love the colours and the detail, I would never have though of putting some of those fabrics together but they all work so well. Pennib, I think you must be the most talented fabricy crafty person ever!
Thanks everybody for your lovely comments. Glad that Annie-c loves it and it will soon be going on her wall.
It was fab making it. Now onto the next one0 -

Picked out 4 fat quarters I need for my Dad's quilt then found another fabric that would go with it so got the woman to cut me 1 and half metres, then went down in the basement and found a lot of fabrics down there been reduced to £5 a metre, was a bit gutted lol, had one down there I could have got instead. Still never mind, I found a pack of fabric scraps down there, weighs half a pound and some lovely fabrics included in it. Got to till and my lovely SIL said her and my brother were paying for my birthday treat so came out a happy bunny with big bag of goodies.
hope you dont mind me asking, but how much was the scrap bag of fabric? was it an 8oz bag? and what type and size scrap fabric bits were in there?
why i am asking, is that i have loads ( and i mean loads...lol..)of fabric bits remnants etc... and was going to sell them on by weight or pre-bagged etc...Work to live= not live to work0 -

If you're going the ebay route, then I would advise taking the time to measure any larger pieces and selling as jelly roll strips or squares or whatever. They appear to sell better. I think the trouble with scraps is that nobody can see online how big the pieces may be and you could end up with a bag of fabric that is unuseable. I had a thought though and I've put my scrap edges from yesterdays cushions in the recycling box. I ought to get them out to keep in case they come out as useable for binding my quilt edges or such like.
Someone asked about a rolled hem foot, what do these actually do? I was looking at binding earlier and thought that if I was going to make clothes, I would need a neat way to tuck in seams and things. I thought of a rolled hem foot too as I saw some on ebay last night. I just wonder about the worth of it. Let's see how I get on.
I saw some lovely maxi dresses in tesco earlier. I have 1 in my wardrobe that I wear a lot in the summer. I saw a comment on a blog yesterday that they are like sweatpants with style. I love this idea! I use mine like that and it works. Chuck a cardi on if it's not that warm and off I go. Just wonder if I could effectively make a nicely fitting one? I was thinking about it in bed last night before I saw the dresses today. Hmm, I'll have to investigate after I've finished my block of nights.
DD's last day of school tomorrow and DS's Friday. They both want to learn to use the sewing machine so I'll have to think of some things to make with them. DS is too little to use the pedal whilst seated so he'll have to stand up to do it, a little scary but he's fairly sensible.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
