I made the second cushion yesterday. Unfortunately, I made a boob and forgot to leave extra for the overlap. So the cushion gapes at the back. I have a few options; 1, add buttons/ velcro/ other to hold it shut 2, remove some stuffing from cushion (messy job, don't fancy that!) 3, make a smaller cushion pad with another spare pillow 4, do nothing, turn it around and don't let anyone pick it up to admire it :D

    Hi all

Maybe a stupid question here, apologies! I want to make something similar to this and I have a zip but it is far too long. Can I cut it down to size?

That's a nice little bag - have added the link to my fave folder.

I have cut a zip once - came to use it but forgot and went to close it, tried to rethread the fastener on and couldn't so it became useless - my advice would be to sew the end across before putting it down and leaving it for a few hours:D

ISOM, that quilt that you linked to is beautiful. I love the ogee pattern. Are you going to buy it or try to draw it? I had a quick google but it's mind boggling trying to figure out how to draw it and that's without the added difficulty of dividing it into squares. I'm reckoning each ogee is made up of 8 squares but that's working on each divided bit being made up from only 1 square. That's without even trying to figure out the seam allowance either!
It's also ignoring the fact that I've never sewed a curve and don't have a curvemaster machine foot (they're £24 ish). Oh but it's lovely!
Looking at it, I also thought that it could be something that's possible to make from old cotton clothing.

ETA: She has a link on her blog to a free cushion tutorial which I think would show how to make the ogee quilt. Not had a detailed look but I reckon it would work. Trouble is, it's going to take 12 squares per ogee.
That's a lotta fabric, espescially if it's for a king sized quilt. I would like to make one but I'll want it to come down to the floor all around the bad so I'm going to have to think about this carefully. Having seen the instructions for sewing a curve, I reckon it would be worth investing in that foot to save the hassle and time limits of it. It'll be ghastly otherwise!

I have finally got to Hobbycraft - looking for the spray that I need so I can do my quilt - and they didnt know what I was talking about - hubby found for me - 3m craft mount repositional adhesive - it says on it patchwork and quilting - please please please say its the right one - it was £9 for 200ml so am hoping so as its 2 1/2 hrs away to return it - got it en route back from the outlaws

i know you have had answers now but have you tried crafters companion stick and spray its purple can and is repositionable i use it to resticky my pazzles cutting mats but it says for anything from paper to rubber and its 5.99 for 250ml, maybe worth a look for next time.

i stuck a button onto a felt flower to hold it in place whilst i sewed it with the machine recently so it was lined up properly and it held great whilst i pushed it under the sewing foot.

I've just found this tutorial on youtube which shows how to sew the crazy curve without pins and without a special foot. Guess, what I'm doing tonight? :D

I thought you guys might know the answer to this...

I'm making all my own wedding flowers with felt and buttons, and I'm having lots of trouble sourcing yellow felt, that isn't mustard, or neon or tinged with green.

I managed to get some from ebay, and stupidly only ordered a coupld of squares. Now i need more and can't get any the same colour!! I used the same seller the second time. I've now bought three lots and they're all wrong.

The felt in hobbycraft is too bright. I want a lemon/pale yellow. I really can't get over the stress this is causing me, i wish i'd never started!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Im so sorry T.P. Im not able to help :o I do hope someone here could help though.

I have been making these make-up bags http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176509.0

They are so easy to make and quick to do too :D I recommend useing heavier fabric for the outside (or interface your fabric) though as one of the bags I made turned out a bit floppy :o

off the top of my head....
have you tried Felt Fairy or Blooming Felt

I don't know much about felt but I think wool felt tends to be a little more muted in colour whereas acrylic (Hobbycraft type) tends to be a lot brighter but acidic colours...

I bought a couple of Maxi dress patterns from the place that had them half price a while back and just looked at the back at the sizing and am really confused.

I usually take a size 10 - 12 but would lean towards 10 especially with dresses. But the sizing on the back of the pattern suggests that I am in fact much bigger.

I know I was a 27" waist when I was properly measured for my wedding dress which was a strange place sort of around my ribs, not the smallest part (on me this is just above my hip bone).

I am definitely bigger now than I was then but even if I am 28" now that makes me a 14 going by the pattern, but the bust on a 14 is 36" and I measure 30" (if bust is the bit that you measure for a bra?) and that makes my top half somewhere between size 6-8.

I don't even want to get into my hip measurement.:(

    I suppose to summarise:
-Am I really *that* pear shaped?
    - where should bust, waist and hips be measured and is there a correct way to do it?
    - Anyone else found the sizing confusing and just gone with normal clothes size - how did that work out?

    Help!

If it were me (and it could quite easily be, that is exactly the sort of thing I do:rotfl:) I would go for simple ribbon ties and make a bit of a feature of it. You could stitch a sort of flap to one edge so it covers the gap and use the ribbons as well?
