    Morning everyone

I have been busy decorating the denim squares for a quilt by doing some machine embroidery on them. Laid them all out on the table and pinned them into strips this morning but I am not that happy with the look, it looks very drab and dreary, not quite what I was hoping for seeing as I was making them for 4 young girls. I have bought some bright coloured buttons to sew on here and there but still think it will look a bit drab colour wise. Thinking I will finish it off and may be try to sell it or something, and just do the one, and may be make some cushions with what I have left over after. May be add some pretty fabrics and some lace or something.

Think the denim would have looked better raggy but I dont think it will rag the way it is as I was cutting out 10 inch squares and it was hard to get a 10 inch square out of the fabric without having a seam. Would have meant I would need about 50 pairs of jeans for each quilt lol. Some of the fabric is stretch denim too so not sure if it will rag and some of the bits where the is a seam has made some of it slightly on the cross of the fabric so that might not rag either.

I have some other sewing to do, two t shirt type tops to make for my self. I am going to attempt to work out how to use the twin needle as it seems this is the best way to do the hems without the fabric stretching. Cant try it this week as OH is on nights and my sewing room is upstairs.

He asked me the other day what I wanted for my birthday so I have asked for a walking foot for my sewing machine. Found the right one on the internet and emailed him the page so he cant get it wrong lol.

I wouldnt be without my walking foot :D it was the 1st one I brought as I love doing patchwork quilts and was running a double size one up in a weekend but could not finish it without one. I have now brought a pintuck foot but untill this silly bandage is off Ive not been able to use it :(
My next one I want to get is a piping foot but that will have to wait a bit :(

Rufusdog Im so sorry your denim quilt has not worked as well as you had hoped :( I would still like to have a go at doing one though (Ive been raiding all the not wanted jeans out of mine and DD's wardrobe and been trawling CS's too :D)
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

    QUILTING HELP NEEDED PLEASE!!

Hi All, Need some help please. Ive been wanting to embark on a quilt for some time and finally found the fabric I want to make it with (Im also going to make hexies with it so I can make patchwork cushions for a different room). The range is here (I love it!! - particularly the blue stuff with the writing thats right at the bottom of the page but Im not overly keen on the cocoa stuff.)

    http://www.quiltfabricdelights.com.au/store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=Moda&Sub=256&isThumbs=Yes&Thumbs=150

My question is that Ive decided to buy a jelly roll to make it easier for myself but how do I know which of the fabrics I actually get in the jelly roll? Its obvious there are different colours from looking at it but is it likely to be a mixture of the whole range or just some of them? Anyone have any experience with jelly rolls that can help me please?:o :o ...or would I be better buying a layer cake?

This is said jelly roll..... (as you can see it doesnt really give any indication of whats going to be in it - am I being really thick??)

Hart, I think it would have been better if I had done smaller squares. Just check what size squares you can fit out of the jeans you have before you decide. The site that had the raggy fleece quilts suggested 10 inch but like I said you would need really baggy jeans to fit that size square. Most of the jeans I had were from youngsters and they were skinny leg so no way could I get a 10" square without the seams.

I might surprise myself and like the quilt once its made lol. Good luck with yours xx

Sorry Pootle :( Im not realy able to help you as I cut my squares myself and have not brought a jelly roll but it will be interesting to know if some can help.
I love the blue fabric with the writing too :D I have just brought the heart fabric that is on that link (Igot mine off ebay) also 3 other Moda fabrics that go with it.

I will cut my squares a bit smaller Rufus and keep on with yours :D sometimes the ones you are not sure of turn out to be the best :D

if you go to linky it shows what youll get with this jelly roll...worth looking round as prices vary hugely! Also would make sure you get enough for whole project as I had a mad panic before trying to get more fabric mid way through!! If youre doing hexes make sure that your fabric is wide enough for the size of hex you want...charm pack or layer cake may be safer as jelly rolls quite narrow iykwim!

Shame about not being able to use your pintuck foot (whatever that is!). I've heard you can use a zipper foot instead of a piping foot, sort of.

This site shows an example of what has been made with your jelly roll: http://jellyrolls2go.com/jelly-rolls/pure-moda-jelly-roll.html

What I got mine (the It's A Hoot one), the picture was a very good indication of what fabrics were in it, but what I found surprising was that there was only one strip of each fabric in the roll. For some reason, I expected there to be more of the good ones.
