    Hi hmo :D
I have brought the right to sell the buttercup bags from Rae as I want to sell them at the craft stall I will be doing in March.
I paid £6.16 which I thought was fair :D you also get the larger buttercup bag pattern too :D
I got the download PDF very quickly :D

They are very easy and fast to make :)

    hi

ive done cut one out for me as a test, and what a cute little bag it looks all pressed and ready to be sewn!

if its ok i will contact Rae and buy the the right to sell as well just incase i do get any sales.

i have a couple of questions, ive only read the instructions briefly i will take them to bed and study them, but there doesnt seem to be any kind of stiffening or interfacing for the lining is that correct?

also are the handles sewn onto the bag once its all finished, so you see them, where they are sewn on the inside?

doesnt that look untidy or is that my tidy mind thinking they should be sewn into the seems out of the way

I want to make a skirt like this one.http://www.joules.com/en-GB/Womens-Skirt/Sadie-Tweed/K_HEATHERTWEED/ProductDetail.raction
I have searched all the usual pattern makers Simplicity, Butterick etc but can't find anything similar. I would like it to have a waist band rather than an elasticated waist.

    Any ideas for a pattern?

That skirt is lovely - i can see why you would want to make it yourself - not very :money:is it lol!

I have had this book on my wish list for a while (even though I rarely have my legs out lol) - 51rFEtf%2BkOL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU02_.jpg

not seen a "real" copy however, so not sure if it has what you are lookinf for.

I have been sewing for ever. For my daughter's wedding I bought a Vogue designer pattern jacket and silk dupion from ebay. It arrived smelling of smoke, so I paid to have it cleaned before cutting it out. Every time I cut it, it tried to turn itself into the kind of spiral ribbon florists use. I cursed every seam, every facing, but kept going, and in the end I had............a garment I absolutely hated, that made me look like a galleon in full sale, and that still sits (2 years later) folded up, waiting to be made into very expensive dusters.
I am so impressed by the makes posted on here.

That is my problem - I have THREE patterns AND the fabric waiting for me but if I am going to spend all that time & effort I want it to fit perfectly and look amazing! I am setting myself up for a fall before I have even started lol!

My fabric behaved so badly that I had to cut curved facings to stabilise the hem. And after all that effort I really hated it.

I just started again with a much simpler pattern. Interestingly, reading other MOB posts, I wore my simple edge to edge jacket over a simple long A line dress, with a long beaded scarf that my daughter had bought me the previous Christmas. Lots of people assumed I had been aiming for an Asian look.

And on the hat front, my daughter asked how I would feel about not wearing one, not even a fascinator. Her day, not mine, so I said that would be fine. She passed on the 'dress code', and the groom's mother wore the hugest, most obviously expensive hat I have ever seen.

I had a really lovely time.

On a brighter note a friend at work who's having a clear-out gave me a humungous roll of black cotton thread, one of these cone shaped reels. Its about 4 inches high and on a wide inner reel, can I use this on my normal sewing machine or will it wobble around too much IYSWIM?

I've got one of those and I just turned it upside down and put it on the pole thing on top of the machine. Works fine with mine. Worth a try anyway ;)

I made a Buttercup bag at the weekend and I used thin cotton for the outer and thicker fabric (from some uniform-type trousers) and if I did it again, I'd iron interfacing onto the thinner fabric, as the bag feels too floppy and hangs funny when I hold the strap.

As for the straps, I machine-sewed them in at the end, with the end of the straps inside the bag. I stitched a square so it looked neat.

    Hi hmo :D
I used a light interfacing on my bags (outer fabric) and it worked better :D The handles look ok on the outside and sewn a botton on the ends but I have also put them on before sewing the outer and lining (like a tote bag) and it has worked fine too :D

I have some on my homepage :D If you need any help just give me a call :D

The other problem I had when I did my first one was how to put the band onto the pleated top but if you cup it a little and pin the edges 1st it works fine :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)
