Hi Emzy, how exciting that you got your machine. When I got mine earlier this year it was like Xmas that had come early!! My only advice would be to buy some interfacing and wadding. Im not sure what you want to make but Ive always found that pretty much everything Ive made needs them (particularly medium weight interfacing). Also, as others have said, some bobbins and some good thread (you can get cheap stuff but TBH it doesnt sew properly and can damage your machine.) I find that moon thread is a happy medium although I always try and get gutterman or equivalent when I can. You can get some good deals on ebay. Happy sewing and looking forward to seeing all your lovely projects very soon!!

Thanks everyone, im so excited :) is this the sort of wadding id need?

Thank you for the advice on which threads to use too, I really appreciate it as i know id have ended up buying something useless or far too expensive!

shirlgirl2004 thanks for all the advice, you weren't negative, i appreciate you letting me know whats best! I think for the second ill have the argos onejust to learn with and then smile and hint to my OH for a better one for my birthday in april if I get on with it ok :)

Well done on your winning bids 23rdSpiral I bet that was exciting when you saw it :) I must go looking on ebay for fabric now too :D

pennib those quilt patches look really lovely :) im looking forward to sitting down and going through this properly to see everyones past makes

    Hi everyone :)

Im going to be buying a sewing machine in the next month and i found this website online.

Are they trustworthy? I dont want to be ripped off and they seem to good to be true :o

I thought I had seen this company mentioned elsewhere on MSE but I have just checked and it was on 'The Sewing Forum'. There appears to be some seriously unhappy folk out there who have bought (or at least paid for) machines from this company. If you google 'Coopers Sewing Machines complaints' you will get quite a lot of information.

I have no personal experience of the company, just remembered reading something very negative previously.

NO NO NO - please don't buy from them. I thought like you and tried to order online. Wouldn't accept my order, so I rang them. Seriously nasty rude man who put the phone down on me.:(

He then rang me back the next day, pretending to be somebody else, and trying to get me to buy!

Google and you will find loads of complaints about this company.

Well don't know what to say. When I was at school and used to pass Coopers, it was during the 1960s. As I said my mother was one of their business customers, (or the company she sewed for was) and they knew me as her daughter, as she frequently went in for one thing or another.

When I went in in Feb, it was as a returning 'local' customer. I can't comment on their distance service. I've found them, really friendly, very helpful and very generous with their time. Sorry to hear people have complaints, I hope they have been sorted, to the customer's satisfaction.

Thats the wadding I use Emzy. Depends on what you are looking to make though. Im a bit of a bag fanatic so its this stuff that I use between my lining and main fabric (although you can also use fleece too depending on the style you are making.)

Im also never without medium weight interfacing but again depends what you are looking to make.

If you are making quilts then someone else would be best advising you as I dont make those (yet).

    Hi,

I bought mine from there by mail order..

They were a bit slow with delivery (5 or 6 days) and they charged my card for the full amount rather than the discounted amount, but a quick phone call sorted that out.

I found the chap I spoke to on the phone a bit abrupt, but you know - what does it matter really?

I saved money, it's lovely, and I never have to talk to him again unless I want to :)

I have used up all my material so have to stop with what I have made now. I am peicing them together in 6 longways (not sure how many there will be width ways yet).

if you wanted to make it bigger overall, have you thought about adding sashing between the blocks?

I also use 2oz wadding for mini quilts, wall hangings, mug rugs ect... but for a bed quilt then 4oz is better... i'd perfer to use something either 100% or 80% cotton like Warm and Natural though, when i can afford it!

Yes I have got some different material inbetween the blocks which makes it bigger, so I think it will work out in the end.:D
