    Hi All

    Really nice makes everyone.
Danemi, where are your pics? :)

Can anyone help me please. I just bought 3 Tilda books so am going to give making some of the dolls a try at some point.
Anyone have any recommendations as to where to buy flesh coloured fabric?(I think its supposed to be linen) Ive found one on ebay but it seems really expensive.

Also, Im in the process of making a bag (surprise, surprise). It say to use fuseable fleece but I only have sew in fleece. Should I sew that to the outer material instead of ironing and then follow the instructions or should I sandwich it together and sew at the same time as Im sewing my outer and lining fabric together?

    Thanks. x
When I made one similar to the Tilda doll I used calico. There are lots of different grades and shades so you do need to see it though.

Can't answer about the fleece as I've wondered the same myself.

I have just spent a week reading this thread!

Have been really inspired by you and gained lots of useful bookmarks along the way so thanks!
In fact I was so inspired that I've just bought a sewing machine! I haven't sewed anything for about ten years so I have no idea what I'm doing!

I've got some kwik sew patterns and will start with a tunic and skirt. No zips but the jersey material for the tunic might be tough to sew so any tips welcome! I've also grabbed some things from charity shops to practice on and hope to do some up cycling too.
I've not been brave enough to try jersey so can't give tips but please let us know how you get on.

    Hi,
I also want to make a quilt, i'm doing a crafting for cancer fundraiser for CLIC Sargent so i have spent loads of time seeking great sewing blogs, tutes and patterns etc, If you go to burda (can be found at http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns) you can get a variety of great patterns for free, from gifts to clothes to home items.
These blogs are fantastic for inspiration, general non technical advice and tutorials made simple http://chickpeastudio.typepad.com/chickpea_sewing_studio/2008/01/chickpea-infant.html
http://rubarbandginger.blogspot.com/ (it's my one, look for the pages section on the right for free tutorials and great sewing/crafty blogs with free patterns)

And the best websites for fab tutorials and inspiration for all crafts would be
    http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/
    http://whatthecraft.com/
and theirs instructables also but you can only download the pdf's if you pay a minimum annual fee, although you could still use the tutorials.

Hope this helps everyone, and if you have any projects or left over supplies plesr think about crafting for cancer as someone to donate them too, (http://rubarbandginger.blogspot.com/ for more info or PM me) x

Have just done a zig zag stitch round the edges to make sure it doesn't fray. It seemed to go ok- I just stitched pretty slowly! I'm thinking of using a ball point needle for the seams. Then again might risk it on this first one as I'm not really expecting it to be wearable! I'll test it out on a charity shop tshirt first and then decide whether to shop for the needle. Will tack first the seams and if I run into difficulties I'll try tissue paper underneath when I machine sew it.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Rikki. A few weeks ago I posted a thread on the OS board looking for some tips on what to buy to start my 18 year old dd off with sewing as she is desperate to learn. I don't sew beyond basic mending and had no idea what dd would need.

Rikki very generously sent a parcel with some basics. This included some patterns. DD chose a dress pattern and has made it up. She picked quite a fancy kind of fabric ( black threads everywhere!) and even lined the dress. She adapted it to give a great fit. I am really proud of her and very grateful to Rikki. I hadn't realised patterns were so expensive and it helped hugely. She also used thread that Rikki sent and practised on the trial zips.

She is now looking for inspiration for her second item. So any ideas welcome :)
