do you think if I cut another out put some wadding in between and then sew the two together around the edges before putting it on the jacket = would that work0

snip,,, cut a flower out of laura ashley red gingham and have then gone around the centre in black thread and am going to place a black button right in the middle of that - looks cute - only problem is its starting to fray just a little around the edges - obviously at some stage the jacket will get washed - am worried if I sew it onto the jacket that on first wash or even before it will fray lots and look daft - is there any way around it snip,,,

This is what I do, Get a flat piece of material you want to use, get some iron on vilene (it comes in different weights, depending on how firm you want the finished piece to be) Iron the two together, then draw flower, dog, cat whateverver on to the vilene side of the 2 bits of fabric, cut out and sew onto jacket by hand or preferably zigzag stitch on sewing machine

PLease can anyone advise me - My daughter has a new denim jacket but its a bit plain and I thought this morning I'd jazz it up a little so I have got my sizzix out and cut a flower out of laura ashley red gingham and have then gone around the centre in black thread and am going to place a black button right in the middle of that - looks cute - only problem is its starting to fray just a little around the edges - obviously at some stage the jacket will get washed - am worried if I sew it onto the jacket that on first wash or even before it will fray lots and look daft - is there any way around it - I wondered about dipping the flower before I put the button on in pva glue and letting it dry - would that work - or has anyone any suggestions - I am very very new to sewing - as in last 3 weeks - please help - thanks
Elaine
If you iron bondaweb onto your fabric before you put it through your sizzix it wont fray. x0 -
Hope you don't mind me joinning your thread, but I am a beginner but have been have much success making cot quilts, mainly for friends, colleagues and friends. One of the things I am having difficulty finding is children/nursery fabric at a reasonable price. Do any of you have any ideas. Thanks. Billie x:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0

Don't discount your local fabric stores. Although generally more expensive than the internet if you rummage around you can find bargains. I found a roll of gorgeous baby fabric in my local store reduced to just £2.50 a metre. It was extra lucky because I had specifically gone in looking for that type of fabric. Normally I don't have that luck.0

Hi Billie, welcome to the thread!! :j Have you tried buying sheets and duvet covers? I dont know anything about quilting so not sure if you have to use certain fabrics but there are probably lots of duvet covers/sheets you can get cheaper than buying fabric by the metre that have baby stuff on them.:)0 -
Hi everyone and welcome Billie
Sorry I have been awal the last few days but I have been busy working on my blue and white patchwork quilt (nearly done now) in between everything else :rotfl: I will post the pic when its done
Pootle, I use duvets and sheet to cut into sqaures for my quilts and they turn out ok. I am on the look out for childrens pattern fabric and also find it difficult to get them at a decent price.

Bondaweb/fuseaweb has a backing sheet on it that you can peel off once you have ironed it to your chosen fabric. Once you have cut it out/sizzix'd it you can then peel off the backing and iron on to your garment (I dont think wondaweb has the backing sheet.) Dunhelm probably will sell it. If not you can get it on ebay. x0
