And Kirsty crafty christmas tomorrow night Monday C4 8pm

Thanks for mentioning this. Have just spent a lovely hour or so watching it on 4OD. Very fun ideas.
  • HMO, I only want something very simple, I do not want or need one that offers a thousand embroidery stitches!! My budget is about £100.
  • I bought my janome 2032 for a hundred pound and i LOVE it. Bought it new via ebay, but it is for sale in other places for around the same price. Excellent reviews too.
  • Hi Glynisrose. I've used Brother sewing machines all my life. Three years ago my Brother started going slow and showing all the signs of coming to the end of it's life, and at that time I had more spare cash so decided to go for an all singing, all dancing Brother Innov-is 2000 machine which did sew, but was primarily an embroidery machine. It's a lovely machine, but I really missed having an all rounder basic sewing machine which I made curtains, cushions, bits and bobs on, and which wasn't such a pain in the you know where to get onto the table and set up. So now having (sadly) way less cash I looked around for a machine which had enough decent reviews, did all the stitches I needed, and also let me do free hand embroidery with an embroidery hoop, and after a few weeks of weighing them all up I finely decided upon one from Tesco's, and using my 'double up the points' coupons, I got it for £35.

I have to admit that I was very wary. Brother machines have been 'my' machines all my life - so to go to this cheap as chips type made me a bit nervous, however this Tescos machine has really made me a happy bunny. It's lightweight; quiet; it does every job I've asked it to do so far and it does a great selection of stitches.

This is just my experience. I'm not saying 'get one of these' - because we all have to decided what we want, can afford and what jobs we want it to do. I don't sew jeans or leather, so don't need a work horse type of sewing machine. But I do make alterations to my clothes (I'm too short for every pair of trousers I buy), and I love to make things for my home.

I think if I were making a recommendation then I'd probably say: Make a list of all the things you want from your machine, then go window shopping on the internet and also in stores so that you can do a bit of research and either count some machines in, or out, then finally prune down your list until you arrive at the ideal machine for you! Good luck in finding your new machine. TC x

thats good advice I've just had a quick look at tesco.com they have quite a few sewing machines starting at about £80 and you can club boost your points if you have any, also i would imagine you can order on line and collect in store so would save on P&P too.

Hope you find what you are looking for

They are lovely cuddles, very shabby chic. I really like them.

I have been meaning to go and sew for the last two days but just cant be bothered lol. Had a right rest for the last week and will probably leave things till after Christmas now. I have a dress cut out ready to sew up but it can wait. Happy Christmas to all my online sewing friends xx

I have broken the bank and treated myself to this in the sale. It was love at first sight, feels so luxurious an d hangs beautifully. I wear it I've r fine blank leggings as I am tall. Anyhow, I digress...mi was thinking how expensive it was and how perhaps I could make a simple version. I have some sewing skills, not great. I have searched for a pattern that is similar but I can't find one. Would anyone on here have any ideas or remember a pattern that might work? Also I am thinking of buying a dressmakers dummy to help me. Do you like them? And scissors or roller cutter. I have scissors of course but am prepared to get better equipped to do this properly.
    Sorry for all the questions,!!Arty.

  • I got some christmas money and while I was out shopping, the day before christmas eve, with my son, he suggested looking in Argos, they had a superb sewing machine that fit my criteria, just none in stock at the one we went to!! So he checked stock at other stores and reserved one and we went to get it!! Had to try it out to make sure it was working OK, but its really easy to thread, use and it does some embroidery, (if I should ever need it!!)fab....
