oh thank you and thats so funny. i do love my new machine though. i treated myself to it in the summer. i don't drink or smoke and as i have a young child i never go out either just seem to spend my time running my business, house and running around on school run and various after school clubs etc as us mummies do.:)

On or very near to my birthday each year i try to buy myself something worth while so i save up and last year i treated myself to a big purchase an Apple iMac and this year it was the Janome MC9900.

I think both were money well spent and purchases that I should have for many years hopefully.

  • My old sewing machine is no more!! Too old to get parts for apparently!! This means I am in the market for a new one for my birthday next month. Any recommendations for a machine that straight sews, maybe zigzag and is easy to thread / use?

You haven't said what your budget is, and there are so many on the market to choose from at the moment, i would say buy the best one you can find for your budget. i personally would buy electronic rather than manual, but others will have their owns views.

i would look for at least these features
    automatic needle threader
    one step automatic button hole
    drop feed dog facility
    drop in bobbin
start stop button (rather than having to use foot pedal)
    needle up/needle down facility
