hey everyone, hope you had a glorious bank holiday! we went to whitstable in kent (and i got some amazing fabric!)

anyhow, heres how my quilt is coming along, last night i put the 3 layers together and sewed on the bias binding, then started to quilt! im using zig zag stitch so any wonky lines wont be obvious. i love it! my top stitiching on my bias binding leave a lot to be desired though! :rotfl:73182D0D-DA74-41AB-8714-18F46C6F8E4D-1197-0000027A781DF2CF_zps7ac3e255.jpg
Looks really nice, and the quilting looks good with the zigzag stitch, wouldnt have thought of doing that and it looks really effective. Which shop did you go to at Whitstable? I go down there now and then as live in Kent, have seen one fabric shop but thought it was a bit expensive. Mind you, havent been in there for a while now

I don't seem to get on the computer as much, and working from the kindle and the mobile reduces the ease of posting somewhat. I find typing with one finger stops the flow of words, and I get really frustrated.
Today I am off to have talks with a Recycling Centre about working with them to Upcycle clothing, or change it or what ever they want doing to it. I had a bit of a chat a couple of weeks ago, but now we need to talk facts, figures and exacts really. The problem is I am nervous, not sure what they are wanting and if I can deliver or not. Its quite a scarey thought that I am off out to do a Business meeting about my sewing. Seems rather alien to be going to a business meeting as it is. Its been 5 years since I worked.
The idea of being able to transform dresses etc into other items is exciting. But will I be able to do what they actually want, and what is envolved I am yet to find out.
Anyway fingers crossed, I will just have to see what happens.
I am also wondering if I can get fabrics from them, for my own creations etc? Would it be possible to buy from them things like the ties for the bags etc? Or would I not have the time if I am doing dresses etc? Heaven my brain is frazzled just thinking about it all.
Made a pillowcase dress for DGD yesterday, to side track me.
Then back to making a few kids bags that have been cut out for months! Just to try and calm my nerves. Fingers crossed for me that I come up with the right answers, and that what they want is what I can do, and will be able to have a regular income for my fledgeling business.

Well I have subcontracted myself out for two days a week. Working for the recycling people, there was a lot thrown out on the table, but that seems to be the best option for me at the moment.
I can work with them and see what it is that is really required, and if necessary re negotiate later down the line. But it will give me an income as I am starting out on my venture.
My head is still buzzing, as I could have been in on the ground on a 10% of the profits, but to me that didn't seem much, and of course there needs to be a profit out of a business that is still not up and running. So I think that this is the way forward for me at the moment.

thanks for the lovely comments, i am very proud of it and going to do some more quilting on it tonight.

would you ladies do the quilting stitches over the 'joins' so to speak? does that make sense? so aswell as quilting diagonally through the squares would you also quilt the edges/joins of the squares?

my 1 yr old son loves cuddling up with it so im going to get some fabric today for one for him so hes not cuddling pink!

hi rufusdog, i went to 'the fabric shop' in whitstable, down harbour street. i spent about £35 and got 3 mtrs of bias binding, 5 metres of different fabrics (some cotton, some polycotton) and 1.5mtrs of wadding. thought it was quite reasonable really and they were very helpful!

your quilt looks great well done, you could sew all round the border to hold that down if thats what you mean on the places where you have sewn the cross they wont need holding down any more but the borders will i cannot see properly from the photo but it doesn look as though you have done anything there.

because you have sewn your binding on you may get puckers just take your time.

you should do all your quilting first than square up your quilt again and then add the binding last.
