    Hi,
I am new here. I have lurked for some time but have gone for it. I ordered a janone 1725 following advice on here and today I took it out the box!! It is some years since I did any sewing, but some things are coming back.
I had some unfinished bags that we make for emergency hospital supplies - so have finshed those.

    What can I do next??

How about some cushions or quilts

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi all in here,
I'm kinda new to this 'room'... I didn't know you were here!
Am trying to get back into sewing..I am self taught and beginner-intermediate level.. i can run up basic clothes etc.
My machine is a good 20 years old and I'd like to upgrade.
I would like a programmable one - my current one is very basic.

What makes/models are considered good value. I have a couple of hundred to spend, I guess....though I love a bargain so if there is a cheap a cheerful one then I'd be happy to spend less rather than more.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

    Thanks in advance

Could you get your existing machine serviced and get an overlocker with the money you've saved? I'd love an overlocker :o
As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again

Is there anything wrong with your machine? Many older machines work just as well if not better than lower priced new models.
Track down any shops near you that take machines for servicing and ask how much a service costs. I have recently found out that Silver Viscount service most makes of machine and arrange for a courier to collect it from your home for a fee of £15 and a general service is around £35. Then keep the remaining money and save toward a better machine or buy lots of lovely fabrics.
For buying a new one the best way is to have a look in the shops to see what is available and have a natter with the shop owner. Don't dismiss the idea of a second hand or ex demo machine from a shop. You can pick up some great bargains that way and will still usually have a warranty from the store

They are lovely, can I ask what you put in for the padding? Is it just normal wadding or is it something special for oven mitts? I burnt my finger through mine yesterday so I need new ones urgently, thought I might have a go at making some.
    Thanks.

    Hello,

I love sewing, but it's new to me, and I've been teaching myself to do a few things. I now have a sewing machine :j so want to try my hand at making curtains. One thing I'm lacking is a good pair of scissors. Can anyone recommend any good quality scissors at an affordable price?
    Thank you!
