Just made these for my sister-in-law's birthday. I bought 3 t-towels in Wilko's sale for £2 - very Cath Kidston lookalikes. Plenty more material to make lots more. :) I put some pot-pouri inside the two larger birds with the stuffing (from a cheapo pillow), but the last set of 3 I made for a friend had dried lavender in them. SIL doesn't like lavender so I couldn't use it for hers. I joined them together with rustic-type string with a hanging loop at the top.

Sorry the photo isn't very clear, I had to take a quick photo before I delivered them. She was very pleased with them and now her daughter wants some too! :)

    Slightly better close up photo.

On the back of the hearts I sewed a small triangle shaped piece of fabric like a tiny pocket but with the opening at the bottom, so like and upside down pocket, then glued the sticks into the pockets. For the flowers I did practically the same but I cut out a small circle first then sewed the pocket onto the circle and then sewed the whole thing onto the back of the flower, this hid all the rough bits at the back as well as having something for the stick xx
    Clever idea.

Yes, the pattern was from the Cath Kidston book 'Sew'. It was originally for a mobile or a lavender stuffed hanging bird. I just liked the idea of hanging three different sizes on one string. You can see it on the preview pages on here.

. The patterns are in different sizes, but I think it would be quite easy to draw the shape yourself. It is just a simple bird outline and the wings are sort of heart-shaped, cut in half. I just machined around the bird shape, leaving a gap along the back for turning & stuffing. I didn't stuff the wings on these as the fabric is quite stiff and I didn't think it needed it. On the first set I made I put some dried lavender in the largest bird's wings with a small amount of stuffing so when you squeeze the wings the lavender smell comes through.

hi ladies, hope everyone is well.

another quick question, can i do a basic quilt on my project without a walking foot? ive paid out for a lot of equipment already so could do with waiting a month or so before i spend £35 on one.

i have read that if i use spray adhesive to secure the batting, then it makes it possible for me to use a standard foot.

    any thoughts?

    thanks

i quit often forget to put my walking foot on and quilt with my ordinary foot.

the walking foot just makes sure that all three layers move together so no puckers, but if you secure everything well you should be ok

I've just used 505 spray baste on a 5ft quilt and the layers all stayed put while I was quilting it using a stitch in the ditch foot. I didn't notice any movement.
I have just bought a flower stitch foot from this company which sells compatible feet http://www.c9store.co.uk/index.php?route=common/home

I don't know what their walking foot for your machine is like so can't recommend them for that particular one but the site might be worth keeping a note of for future reference. They sell on Amazon too.
