    Hello all

I apologise if this has been asked before, I have browsed this thread and I am very impressed with how creative and inventive you are on here.

As I am now part-time working, I have more time, and want to start doing my own projects like curtain making, plus, would like to transform the main bedroom into something more like 'shabby chic' (yes I've been browsing on that thread too!).

It's just me, OH and my DDog, so, looking to make our home a nicer place to be. We've completed a lot of repairs/modernising to our little bungalow, basic decoration, but it just needs more to make it cosy, I think.

Any advice gratefully recieved, thanks in advance all! :)

    Kind regards

    BBB

i think i am the same we built this house 2 yrs ago its all very minimal and white with pale oak furniture, doors and kitchen but i am trying to introduce a little colour in places.

I've made a quilt in teal and brown to drape over one sofa and bought some teal cushions to add a splash of colour in the lounge and some round pot teal balls in 3 different sizes for the stone mantlepiece, but still looks very minimal.

ive ordered some red and green bedding from achica just waiting for that to arrive have white bed so think i will make red heart to hang off bed head, again plain light oak bedside tables and cream and silver lamps may put them somewhere else and get new lamps but not sure what to look for.

need to buy some new flat and fitted sheets to go with the bedding when it arrives but again i still think it will look very minimal.

i dont seem to have the vision that alot of you ladies have

That sounds good - I have been lucky enough to be given a modern pine bedroom suite in 70s orange varnish.

I'd like to paint the wood so it's off white/distressed, maybe bling it up with silver, and have the colour scheme teal, duck egg and whites for the soft furnishings, going for that shabby chic look.

It would be nice to give it our own personal stamp. OH isn't bothered, as long as he has somewhere to sleep, so has given me the project! Mad fool....

Then, in the lounge its cream and light beech suite, so I want to add a lot of textures in creams, caramels, light brown and golds, mixture of new and vintage woods in there.

I can see I will be busy, but, want the right tools and equipment to start. I think everyone here will be creatively inspiring - great to see what you are all doing already. Hope you don't mind if I pinch a few ideas? :D

  • :)Hello again

I hope you are all enjoying your Easter, with plenty of chocs if you can have them...

I've done more searching on this thread and the 'Sewing Room'; and spoken to a shop owner (Vintage and crafts) who runs sewing and crafting lessons locally.

She recommends a £99 John L*wis sewing machine for a beginner (due to good aftersales service, advice and warranty), so I am thinking of buying that.

Otherwise, maybe a Janome or Brother seems to be the way to go... At this stage, I don't want an all singing, all dancing machine even though the dearer ones have all kinds of enticing stuff like different embroidery stitches, etc. I'm only starting on curtains and cushions, as easy as possible for me!

    Keep crafting!

Cheers for the reminder flossie, I'm intrigued to see how the series goes as it looks to me very clothes orientated, nothing wrong with that but some of my best sewing makes (certainly of late) have not been clothes (will post some photos when I get in order)
& by doing clothes they are starting down abit of a project runway direction imo, I really do hope they cover other things to keep it as truely home sewer orientated as the blurb says best amateur sewer not seamstress/dress maker
    - Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

I bought a Toyota SPB15 just over 2 months ago. It was an impulse purchase due to snow and being stuck indoors. Since then my daughter and myself have made a few cushions, place mats, peg bags etc but it has not been used excessively.
Recently it started to miss stitches. It will go along quite happily for about 3 inches ( I don't do metric) and then miss a stitch and so on. We've changed the needle, changed the bobbin, tried to clean any dust/fluff etc and changed the thread but it still keeps doing it.
Any offers as to why and a solution would be greatly appreciated. Failing that I still have the original box so it's a possible trip back to Argos, wonder how successful that will be :)

Give the ladies wt toyota a call. They are very helpful but they only work in the morning. Does it miss on any other stitches? Mine used to miss on a zig zag stitch. Turned out to be using cheap needles and thread. Have you looked at the tension
