Haven't posted on here for a while as I've been knitting rather than sewing for ages.
Some gorgeous makes as usual ladies. Particularly love that quilt Tamster - I'm sure your Mum will be overwhelmed.
I made some little chicken paperweights for holding cookery books open, a while ago, and someone I gave one to has asked me to make more, which I'm really pleased about.
Have made a selection for her, all brown themed..Jack of all trades ... Master of none

Here's the summer (?!) dress I made my niece. My first attempt at shirring and it was surprisingly easy! Tutorial & pics on my blog
Hope everyone has a lovely Bank Holiday weekend, whether you're sewing or out and about (hoping to do a bit of both)

:j I'm so excited. Bit the bullett and have just bought a Janome DE1800 sewing machine from du*elm.
I've been 'pontificating' for sooooo long. Looking at review after review until my head hurt over weeks and weeks! So popped into dunelm to get some curtain wire and came out with a sewing machine, as you do
Lovely lady there demonstrated it and I had a go, threading the machine as well etc. It's a pretty quiet machine which is a bonus.
Bought some faux suede in duckegg blue and I'm going to make some envelope cushion covers on it, following a you tube tutorial I've used before, when I had my Hyundai machine for a few hours before it went back. The thread kept getting tangled.
I'm a bit daunted about filling up my bobbins etc (is that the right word) and using the buttonhole etc but if I just go slowly I'm sure I'll be fine.
Ooooooh I'm all of a flutter and a bit giddy :rotfl:
Love seeing everyone's projects and I'm sure they'll be an inspiration to me.

Avstar; That is one super cute dress, left a comment on your bl*g.
Dizzy lizzie; I bet you wont be able to prise yourself away from you new toy now. Looking forward to seeing your makes. I've been looking at new machines and didn't know that
Dunelm sold them. Does yours have a lot of embroidery stitches?
Here are some of my makes, 2 cheeky chappies!0 -
i started sewing classes a fcouple of months ago and following a prima pattern with a lot of help managed to make one long skirt in cordory and had enough material to all but the hem managed a short skirt too as had a bit over fabric over. i also started two summer dresses that have got left have done as the twp teachers could not agtee how the halter neck should be done. then on my own following another prima pattern cut out a really basic shift dress that i decided could be worn as a nightie if really bad so that i could get some practise in sewing straight lines but got frightened off continuing when i read that i needed some weird material around the neck. that when i looked at my own clothes realised then what an important piece of the dress this was.....THEN to cap it all at this very fragile stage of learning the classes were sto[[ed. so now the machine and the the pieces i have mentioned sit in the corner of my kitchen glaring at me all day in this go on if you dare manner, and i dont know what to do. right from the beginnig i have been really nervous about using the machine and trying it alone and i dont know why. the machine sat unopened for 7 years untill this classes started and now i am back to step one. please please can i have some advice. should i just grab the bull by the horn or am i right in being so cautious which, i can only think is because i am worried about doing it wrong. but i guess if this happens i guess you just unpick it and try again. is this all too mammoth a task to take on my own. is this something you can teach yourself as you go along with a little help from you more experienced sewers and maybe utube or should i hold fire until perhaps i can find another class??0

Hi I think I have this figured out, if you increase it by 666% you should get it up to 99.9% of your correct size.
1 divded by .15 is 6.66, to check this 15 x 666% = 99.99, or
0.15 x 666%=0.999, which is just short of 100% of 1, if you see what I mean?
Hope this helps.:)
hi, i too have a similar problem. i was bought a couple of cath kidson books where half the book is taken with patterns that am told i need to make bigger and copy. i have absolutely no idea how to do this. only started sewing a few weeks ago and was bought this to help me along. unfortunately most of the patterns are things you would make for a change but some thing like a spectacle case i might be abie to try, alos how can you copy on to a4 paper. can anyone help??0 -

Homealone, you have done really well to make a start on all these projects so why stop now. If you search You Tube there are loads and loads of videos showing you how to do practically everything to do with sewing so if you are not that sure how to do something yourself you can always watch a video and keep pausing it. If I were you I would just pick one of the items and finish that off first, then do the next and so on. You will soon get used to the machine and it wont feel so daunting.0
