Thanks for all the advice and confidence building. I can do i'm sure as long as i manage to cut everything right I can always undo it.

Another question i got the sew magazine this month and when looking at the pattern found that my measurements appear to make me 4 dress sizes bigger than shop bought clothes does this sound normal?

    Good luck diable!

I have started to get my crafting (mainly sewing) stuff back into DS1's bedroom now he's back at Uni...can't wait to get going again! :j:j

Thanks, will let you know how I get on as I'm not looking forward to draining the oil out of it as it's an industrial spec machine, will get some photo's up as some on here might like the machine lol
  • SMD also have fantastic customer service if it goes wrong so it is win win.

I second this. Infact there may even be a testomonial on their site by me from years ago when I bought my machine from them.

My machine stopped working for whatever reason shortly after getting it - one email (or phonecall, cant remember) and they sent a new one out immediately and took the old one as they delivered the new.

The sizes on patterns are always different to the ones you buy in the shops - shops have 'vanity sizings' so that you think you're a smaller size than you are.

I made a dress from a pattern in Sew magazine and I was a few sizes larger than I am. The key is to measure (get someone to measure you) and work from the measurements rather than what size you buy in the shops.

For anyone that is thinking of selling some of their homemade items, this magazine looks worth a try:
    http://www.buysubscriptions.com/category/craftseller?offer=jsso12

On these offers there is no tie in, so just cancel your direct debit once the £5 has been taken out.
Oh, I bought the January one yesterday. Think I will go for it though, as it isn't starting until the March one, due in February. I realy like Craftseller, as you can sell things using their designs, so long as you reference the designer.

Right, off to have a look at the one I got yesterday. Will take out the offer on Friday as it's my next planned spending day. :)

Have a good day everyone x

Unfortunately then I am too much of a fatty and will have to lose somevweight before I can use a pattern to make myself some clothes.

    Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place to post or whether I should start a new thread but I've just started to sew clothes for my little boy and I have managed to get a bit of a fabric stash and I have my machine ready but I need all the other basics. So, what do I need and where's the best place to shop for them?

I had a little sewing kit with my machine but I think it's quite cheap and I'd like things that would last, so what do you use regularly?

    Thanks in advance

I have this magazine, its not too bad, but I wish they could tell me how they set thier prices, as if I was to charge the amount they suggest for the coasters in last months issue I would be laughed at. People still do not want to pay those kind of prices here anyway!.
    Alas.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
