Hi
Not been on my machine since last weekend, back to work last week and boy, it was a busy week!!! I really need to organise my time better. Today is mostly going to be spent fixing clothes, we have a few 'holes' that I need to sew up on perfectly good clothes and then I am going to see what I would like to do for my next project. Next birthday is in April so I do have some time but I just love what hmo has done above for handcream, I think I am going to adpat that idea for mothers day...thankyou hmo for posting :-)
.....off for a toddle around the internet for inspiration! have a great sunday people!

glad you like my idea thank you.0 -

I have the Brother 1034D - It is a great machine. Never had any problems even with several layers of fabric. It is really, really easy to thread as it has colour coded arrows showing exactly how to thread each of the four spools. I would highly recommend this machine. The only thing it doesn't have is a trim trap to collect the trimmings but I got one on the internet for £9.00 - I will get you the website name if you are interested.
Thats the model i am looking at wondered what price i might pay best i have seen is £189 on ebay

Thanks mooloo and hmo. At least I know who to come to if I get stuck. I thought having a kit for the first one would make it easier as it comes with full instructions. At least I hope it does.Debt Free by Xmas 2013 No #131 £1199/£2,000

Sewing Machines Direct have it for £189 with 3 free feet and free delivery. According to their website, the feet are worth £81.
I doubt if you would get one cheaper than that unless you get a used one.0 -

Good Morning everyone,
Having a panic today. Went to John Lewis yesterday to get the fabric i need for my curtains and blind of my lounge diner and got a bit carried away and spent £166 and still need to get the blind kit and lining fabric.
Before i spent the money i was very confident i could make them now i am so panicked. Really dont want to destroy the fabric. I'm sure i'll be fine but need to find my confidence.
This is my main fabric http://www.johnlewis.com/282640/Product.aspx and i will be putting strips of plain red on the sides as my blind has t be 210cm wide.
Has anyone here made a roman blind before incase i get stuck would be great to have someone to ask.
Thanks
PS. Loving all the post xmas makes guys. xxx
Hi, don't panic. As others have said it is mostly about accurate measuring. Make sure you have straight seams when you join the red bands on firstly. Then measure. When I make a roman blind the lining is the actual width you want and I add 3 ins on to make the fabric bigger ( this is so you get an even turning on the wrong side and don't see any lining form the front). The most important factor is to make sure the blind measures the same width all the way down and has a straight bottom edge before you even think of adding any channels or it'll never hang professionally.
If you have any old bed sheets or curtains why not have a go at making a trial blind to practice on first so you don't mess up your lovely fabric??Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

I'm still at the trying not to panic stage. I have a 3 metre blind to make and I've never made one before. I'm wondering if I should try a smaller one first because with the larger one I have the added complication of pattern matching. :eek:0
