I am going to make my aunt's birthday present: a purple table runner; using my embroidery machine (given to me by her along with about £500 worth of gubbins), hand dyed cotton fabric (natural dye, natural mordant, old sheeting), and some embroidery designs kindly given to me by a wiccan crafter on a craft forum. they're of the guardians of 4 winds plus the guardian of the human spirit all depicted as happy, chubby women.0

When cutting things out in Fur, its best to cut out on the back, and use a scalpel or possibly the rotary cutter, and just cut through the backing of the fur, then tease the fur apart. Then it can also be a good idea to trim the fur off of the seam allowances to reduce the bulk. My Mum used to make soft toys when I was young and I remember her doing this to the teddies etc that she made. And she usually did the cutting out in the kitchen or outside so the fur didnt get all over the place! (Mind you we did live in Cyprus so it was lovely out on the veranda anyway!).
Right I better get moving I am on this laptop so much these days that I am not at the sewing machine! derrrWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Oh some wonderful makes, lots to catch up on this thread!
Got my fabric for a Christmas stocking so will try that soon, got to try and find a pattern for cutting out or might just freehand it.
I've finished my first clothing project from a pattern, a winter cape. :T Will try and get some pics up soon.0 -
today I'm wondering if Cath Kidston's staff will notice that Mrs E.O from Basildon has been rather abusing their free swatch service lol.
hey, 3 x free 7 x 5" oblong samples of oilcloth + 3 small purse frames from ebay, rudamentary sewing skills and some good glue = change purses for my daughter's friends' xmas pressies!!0 -
Lovely stockings Pollyskettle, I think the fur really sets them off.
Good luck with the purses Flibsey. I havent made any with frames before, something on my to do list when I get time.
Still doing the sofa so everything else has been put to one side for now. The seat cushions are finished and one of the back ones, just two more to do then I can start on the main bit. There wont be so much sewing to do there as most of the fabric will be stapled on.0 -
haha Fibsey very MSE :T good luck with the purses
Hope your sofa covering is going well Rufus, sounds like you're getting there.
Here's the cape I made, my first proper pattern make, more pics on my blog. I was v nervous cutting it out, and I had to make up the lining as the pattern didn't have one, but it worked out OK
