Please may I join in with this too? I haven't been able to find out how it works yet, but I really do need some motivation to declutter. Would someone mind letting me know what the procedure is?
Ruth
Hi Ruth
Basically.... you make a decision to declutter your home from items that you no longer use/need/don't know why you're hanging on to them.
You can do it quickly or gradually, set yourself a challenge of so many things a day (I'm doing 10 things a day for 10 days), or just a few bits here and there. Depends how cluttered up you are really. Some people are giving it to charity shops, others are selling on Ebay and other sites, some stuff is passed on via Freecycle, other bits recycled, and the absolute junk is binned.
Keep reading the posts and you'll get the general idea: but we all achieve the same end -a decluttered home and a sense of freedom!!
Good luck

Didn't do any decluttering yesterday, had a day off, but here's today's offerings.
IN: Absolutely nothing, not even any mail.
OUT:
2 books on scrapbooking. I have made 3 scrapbooks already so don’t really need guidance any more. Going to Oxfam.
Brown Ralph Lauren paper bag, that one of the girls brought something round in. I’ve put some of the other stuff for Oxfam in it and when I can get there, off it will go!
2 patchwork books and a book on printed greetings cards. More books that I don’t need. Off to Oxfam.
A chick-lit and a grammar book – again off to Oxfam.
The lead to my back massager that, um.... unfortunately was in the rubbish collected yesterday because I couldn’t find the lead! That will teach me to hang onto things until I’ve searched thoroughly. This will have to go in the bin for next week’s collection.
A mirror for the car so that the driver can see baby in the back. This is brand new and never got used in our car for our grandson. Off to Oxfam
2 Tena Lady type pads. I don’t use these so I’ve put them in the box for the homeless shelter.
A White French Maid apron. Bought this in Tenerife last January, Heaven knows why. Had visions of me doing the housework in it I suppose! It’s never happened so this will go to Oxfam too.
A pack of leg waxing strips. Brand new still in packet, I’ve never had the courage to use them! In charity shop bag.
A mini chess set. I’ve had this since I was a girl, but I haven’t played chess probably for about 40 years so don’t really know why I’m hanging on to it. Sentimentality I suppose. Off to Oxfam.
So that’s my 10+ items for today. It’s a wrench to let some of them go, but I honestly don’t know why I’m keeping them.Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

I know what you mean but Oxfam will be happy.
I shredded a load of old bills and put all of my instruction booklets into wallets. Now have a tidy draw and will be able to find a booklet when I need it. (found booklets for stuff I threw away ages ago.:rotfl::rotfl:)I went away and now I'm back.:j:j0 -
Had a fit of guilt since posting earlier:rolleyes:, so have filed and decluttered all bills and paperwork in the last hour whilst watching tv (some scary programme aboout women with the worlds largest breast implants  )
Now have a lovely tidy concertina file of recent bills, and a huge pile ready to be shredded tomorrow (can't do it tonight as shredder noise will wake DS). Feel better that I've done something today!
*edit* have also decluttered purse of out of date coupons and cards :-DGOD BLESS DURAN DURAN

Also in your wardrobe put all you hangers the wrong way round, when you wear something it get hung back up the right way and again everything the wrong way around goes I am thinking maybe three months for this one.
OH, I have a kitchen drawer like that............plus several in the spare bedroom/dressing room.....will try that tomorrow/today!!!!
Will TRY the hanger one xx0 -

Welcome to all the newbies joining the thread :T:beer:
I have had a fairly quiet day on the decluttering front - have been trying out some new recipes which the boys in my house think is a really good idea! I have never really done weekly meal plan before but MrK said that I would need to do monthly meal plans to get all the new yummy recipes in  See you can teach an old dog new tricks:rotfl:
Kids were still home today and look like they may well be for up to the next week  we currently have thick snow on the ground and the school does not have enough grit to ensure the safety of the kids and the staff come from some way so cant get in, and horror of all horrors they cant supply adequate catering facilities. DS1 would insisit on coming home instantly :rotfl:
So IN:
Kids  with snow
Body Shop order (I was SO impressed at the UPS driver)
OUT:
Recycling
packing from above order
Ebay package
Pending out:
Lots to go on ebay
freecycle stuff to be picked up
stuff to the charity shop (may venture out today with that and see if we can drop it off)
Loads of socks that the boys have grown out of to the rag recycling
It will be a quiet weekend on the decluttering front too as I am on a course but think I will declutter the bedroom drawers and go through the magazines that are under the bed (there are quite a few!) More to go in the recycling I fear, and by March they may even get through the snow to pick it up!Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0
