More storage might be a solution - but declutter *first* so you know exactly how much storage you need.

A tip I saw recently was that if you have heaps of clutter, declutter your storage areas like shelves and cupboards before you attack the heaps, because then you have somewhere emptier and better organised to put the things you decide to keep. Doesn't sound like the OP is quite at this stage, but I found it useful advice so I thought I'd add it!
  • i have looked at the flylady thread but it looks sooo scary! :o
does it take everyone all day to do the things on their list? sorry if i sound stoopid but people seem to have such long lists!! :D

re the storage, i think f i got rid of all the stuff i dont want i probably wont need much storage so thats a plus i suppose, i think i was spoilt at my old house as i had a large cupboard under the stairs a cupboard opposite the stairs and built in double wardrobes in both bedrooms!!! god i loved that house!!

starting tomorrow i am going to declutter a room every day (except weekend as kids at home :p)

so tomorrow LOUNGE. by the time i pick the kids up from school my lounge will be spotless and shiny and clutter free. :j

The key is once you have had a big de-clutter to keep on top of it.
There is no point spending a week de-cluttering to then allow it to build up again, i learnt this lesson the hard way!!!!!!
I now spend 15 mins every day (MORNING GENERALLY) colllecting things from downstairs that belong upstairs and i put them on the stairs, then EVERY TIME i go upstairs i take one thing up and PUT IT AWAY!!!!!
Also ruthlessness is the way the way to go, ask yourself is it useful, beautiful or VERY sentimental, if not chuck it!!!!
I have also found cutting the kids toys by at least half has really helped and also clothes.

I must admit as well that there is no point me ranting at everyone to put things away when i am not doing the same, they all seem to take their cues from me, ie if i leave something out it is the green light for them to do the same!!!!!

I also use the 15 mins fly lady method, i have two projects on the go and i set the timer on my phone i do 15 mins in one room then 15 mins on another then i have a 15 min break, that way i don't get bored and distracted, and never pull more out of a cupboard than you can put away in half an hour!!!!!

P.s remember it doesn't have to be perfect, a job done ok is better than not done at all!!!!

Thanks for the tip mineallmine, I would have tried this but it truly was beyond it! The lump was about the size of a rat! There was no point having the shower trap drainer on the bath as it just caused problems so he's taken it off now and it means we can actually lower the bath enough for the feet to reach the ground IYKWIM?
Before work tonight I did some grouting. The grout is no good as it's elderly (naughty waste of money as DH didn't box in the tiles :( ). Shall get some more when I get up today and go to the tip too. Then come home and grout, wayhay, that'll be 3 things off the list.
I dug out some undercoat and eggshell earlier too so I can get on with the painting which is in dire need of being done.
Keep your eyes peeled for decluttering progress!
