  • I did it... I did it, I climed up in the airing cupboard & cleared it all out onto the bed...
Went throught everything, sorted into various piles & filled a huge bag for the charity shop.
Some items (old pillowcases, etc) will be for my mum who's in mid flow making little bags for knitted teddy bears (they go abroad) she uses any spare material:T

The whole cupboard looks sooo much better & I've got rid of all the "horded" stuff I really didn't need.:D

    I've done the kitchen!
Well, almost. I've got the cupboard under the sink to do and the herbs cupboard. I also realised a little while ago that I've left the deep fat fryer out in the utility room so I need to find a home for it too. The other cupboards look much better. I do need to have some use ups of food and herbs though :( better get on and find some interesting meals to cook which needs lots of herbs in :)

ETA: Am now decluttering a bottle of malibu I found which had about 2-3 drinks worth in it. Then gotta work on all the other drinks there. My poor liver (won't all be tonight btw!).

i've found a good system for decluttering.
i set my phone alarm for 1 hour (or whatever time i have, usually an hour max) stick some music on (upbeat and fast to get me going) and i stick everything from one room that i want to sell in boxes and store under my bed (this way if i want to sell on ebay/amazon/carboot etc, everythings in one place, easily accessible and out the way). then i go round the room again box up anything i want to keep that i dont use too often (this can go in attic or under spare bed) and throw anything i dont want to keep, i try and be mercyless -but its quite hard. i try and get as much of this process done in 1 hour as i can. then i go have a brew, do something else for an hour. then either repeat with another room, or continue till one rooms clear.

today ive completely cleared my front and back room, and taken everything that doesnt live in these rooms upto the spare room. i find its best to find place for things to 'live' and then you know where to put them back if they are out of place. other than that i think my problem stems from having far too much stuff. best get selling!

    hope this helps.

p.s if its really bad, what i tend to do is concentrate on clearing one corner, put everything where it should go, even hoover that corner and that usually gives me the will to continue as i can see progress, then i start on another corner and before you know it the rooms done!
    Now living within my means!

  • All had been quiet on the decluttering front since last post - Had also got behind on general tidying. I managed to make some headway today - downstairs of the house is looking good - upstairs is another matter but I will be addressing that on Friday.

    IN

Hand Sander - I have plans....
    Crystal lamp for bedroom
3 microfibre towels for gym (bargain from 99p shop)
    Battery for pedometer
    DVD for DS
School Vests for DS (Can't believe the summer's nearly over)

    OUT

50 books & a bag full of bits to CS
    Amazon parcel
    Batteries to recycling
    General rubbish & recycling

Had a horrible panic when I couldn't find my ipod - frantically searching for it for about 15 minutes & became convinced I'd either accidentally given it to the CS or put it in the recycling - found it in a newly created "safe place" that I'd immediatey forgetten existed... :o

Pollys - good luck to DD for her A Level results & to all others waiting - a stressful time !!! ( I had recurring exam anxiety dreams for years after taking my A levels)

    Can I join in please?

I have a total nightmare of clutter including a whole load of stuff I inherited recently. I'm a teacher so I find it hard to make much progress in term time, so I want to make a big push between now and the beginning of term. The big push starts tomorrow morning, so I'm typing this tonight to try to make myself follow through on my intentions.

My motivation for decluttering is that I want to move house and can't possibly take all this stuff with me, and my two biggest challenges are that I find it very difficult to stick at decluttering if there isn't another grown-up to talk to, and that my kids are even worse hoarders than I am. (I'm a single parent with 2 kids at primary school.)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
