Hi Guys
Currently decluttering paperwork..
Just wondering if I need to keep bills for a certain amount of time? Even when paid?
Is there a certain date when you just start throwing things away?
& how long do you guys keep receipts?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Phew it's hot. The really REALLy cluttered spare room is a rich source of stuff to go. Just off to read some magazines - see some of this decluttering can be fun - finding dusty bottles of wine that *have* to be drunk and magazines to read. :ADeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I'm self employed, so I keep completed tax years for 7 years. Sorry .... if you're PAYE, I don't know. If you've got guarantees that depend on them, then keep them, of course. If none of that applied, I'd keep them for at least a year, to be on the safe side. Or may be for the life of a fixed deal?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
More from me:
21. black bin bag of weeds.
22. grey jumper from the under the bed bag.
23. red cotton harem pants, ditto.
24. purple waistcoat, ditto.
I have a problem, tho - a vintage Radley dress, pink halter neck. I could take it to a local quality second hand shop, I suppose, tho I'm not sure where they are these days. I don't think I can just put it to a charity shop....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Its probably a self esteem issue but I never believe my stuff will sell on ebay - and I've just been looking at all the unsold radley dresses too - 7 at the moment, with no bids.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Yes I would definately see how much a dress agency would give you for it Karma.0 -

I just list things on Ebay I think will sell - I don't bother checking the unsold history, if somebody wants it - great! If not - at least I tried. It's really nothing personal if an item doesn't sell - it may just be the day of the week or the time that an auction ends that means less people are around when auctions finish - ie I time auctions to finish early evening on a Sunday, when the majority of people are likely to be in due to the working week about to start again, are bored on the internet and looking for things to buy!I relist things once and if they still don't sell I look at a different way of selling it or give it to charity.
I'm back from my long weekend in the Lake District now and have caught up with the thread, well done everyone! I will restart decluttering tomorrow with renewed vigour. I've even managed to not bring back a single souvenir from holiday which is a first!0 -

Legally it is 7 years... but if you have other proof of payment, like bank statements, don't bother!
