Hubby is that you??!! i know what you mean and he has his hundreds in the house BUT i cut the limit with the numerous ones overflowing in the bathroom, the few in the bedroom ,the ones in the downstairs loo..i mean really is it necessary to have that many on the go and out?! He can have millions if they are just put away neatly!0 -
I used to be like this and it has taken a few years really to get to the point where I dont "overstock" it has really needed a change of mindset.
Washing powder is ALWAYS on offer somewhere
PASTA/RICE- you might save a penny or two but really, what is the point
CLEANING STUFF- most of its not necessary- last time I counted I had 8 sprays, I am using them up, the one with the least in, gets used 1st
TOILETRIES - Ive broke the back of this now, but had crates of the stuff to "use up" and more I bought. I started at the beginning of the year to use up toiletries before buying more and I have only just needed to buy shampoo now. (although I did need toothpaste) I had enough conditioner, shower gel moisturisers to sink a ship. Now im almost depleted, and have worked out what stuff I like and what Ill buy again and what doesnt suit me and I wont.
just meal plan your food in, and dont buy more. A meal plan will help you identify exactly what you need.
Throwing it away! When you spent good money on it! Are you crazy:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
And as for books, I work by the principle: I have read this - if it was rubbish and I wont read it again ( lets face it some books just are) then I give them away. If I want to re-read it or I think some freind might want to borrow it or Ill use it for reference, its a keeper.
Collecting books doesn't make anyone intelligent by osmosis ( I used to believe they did   ) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

God! My house is full of clutter and it's just me here - although I blame the cats for the clutter, after all, I'm out at work all day so it can't be me cluttering the place up!
I recently had a blitz on books - I had a bulging bookcase down stairs and one in the spare room. I kind of used to think that if I enjoyed a book. I'd keep it and read again in a few years but I never have done and they are just taking up valuable space. I even found 2 boxes of books in the loft a while back! Now being sold on Amazon.
I must get round to clearing out the airing cupboard - I know I've got masses of clothes in there that I've either forgotton about or don't fit that have just got shoved to the back over the years. Have so much in there it's a wonder I can find anything!
I'm the same with the toiletries. Haven't bought any for ages as I am just using what I've already got. Had enough toiletries to supply the world it seems!
My kitchen cupboards are pretty empty - the only cupboards in the house that don't seem to suffer from cluttering.
I do get a bit depressed with it from time to time and occasionally have a blitz but it seems to build up again or I just get bored and stop blitzing. I still blame the cats though for the clutter as they are at home more than I am!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Give the books to the library! Every time I get to a book crisis, I fill a binbag then leave it for about a week before checking though in case there are any too precious to give away.
Then I give them to the library & they're always happy to accept books in good condition."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
I hate clutter too:o
I had to get rid of loads of tins and freezer food recently that was out of date so I did a mass clear out and have emptied every drawer of my freezer except 1 and have told hubby that I refuse to buy any more food until every item is used up:rotfl: so we are eating very odd dinners at the moment;)0 -
I know what you mean about clutter, I get down about it and no matter how much I chuck the house is still full of rubbish. It's mainly kids stuff and clothes. Have been doing little by little but I just don't seem to have the time either to get stuck in
would love to be able to drive because I would just literally shove the whole lot in the car and give it to a charity shop

I concur, please don't take his books away! There is always room for books! Even if you haven't read them in years, you never know when you'll be perusing the bookshelves and they'll be just the one you want!
You have far too many tea towels though! Two is fine, one clean, one being washed. Three if you absolutely must, as long as they don't start encroaching into space needed for books.0 -
:rotfl: at the paucity of books in all your houses ... we probably have a dozen tall bookcases, all of them rammed with books, some still in boxes from our move 10 years ago, and a number of duplicates lurking because if we haven't been able to find a particular book (or have forgotten we've got it!) we've had to get another!
Every now and again I try to cull a few, but I have to do it sneakily. DH hates getting rid of books ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
DO NOT TOUCH THE BOOKS. That is all.0
