The Great Declutter Part 2

I decluttered my bag today. It feels great! Out went lots of makeup into my drawer so I can use them up, and I've thrown out several old bits and pieces which didn't belong there. What can I do now?

Got rid of 8 music CDs that came with a magazine subscription years ago on Freegle. Keen young collector boy picked them up. Little does he know that in 20 years time he'll be decluttering them like me!0

Everything Ive ever requested off freecycle Ive got!
I thought it would be a bit much to ask for a fridge freezer, I got an email within 10mins and I have a lovely silver bosch number in my kitchen now - how very wonderful!
I too have given away piles of old magazines, the demand was unreal!
But yes, for furniture, for anything electric, and even total junk freecycle is your friend.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
When me and OH moved into our first flat together out of my parents I brought loads of boxes of stuff from my childhood. He had loads of computer and childhood stuff. It's taken us about 2 years to clear it out. Things just got too much. We have a little boy so had to make room for all his things. Think we will do another big clear out in the run up to Christmas as LO's birthday is 11 days after too. I have kept almost all his clothes from new born to now (18months) they are mainly in vaccum bags but take up so much space. I wanted to save them incase we have another child but we can't afford another with me working part-time so it could be a long while off! I think I am going to try and sell them or give to charity shops, theres no way I can chuck them!
It felt so good when we did our big declutter. There were lots of things we (well mainly me!) were hoarding and I was just ruthless in the end. I threw away stuff I wanted to keep but hadn't used for years so there was no point.I haven't missed the junk in the slightest and TBH can't rememeber most of the stuff we chucked!0 -
It's so difficult. Its really tempting when supermarkets do offers on dishwasher tablets or stuff you can buy in bulk and store in the garage but at the same time it drives me MAD! I hate clutter and mess and hording junk and random stuff piled everywhere....! If I was rich I would live in one of those minimalist, spotless houses you see in magazines!! No piles of clothes, no bookshelves bending under the weight of a thousand library books, no clothes hung from coat hangers on the picture rails, no "oooh that might come in handy one day" objects... I think I've made my point... I hate clutter!!0

Kaz - great post, but really scary timestamp!

9. the rest of the broken bamboo armchair.
10. odd piece of wood that appeared in the [strike]jungle[/strike] garden one day.
11. repotted the last aloe vera, so lots of dead foliage out.
12. leftover sand sprinkled over the bit where the soil goes down in level by about 4", because of a wall I had rebuilt. Bag of topsoil to come.
13. All the recycling and the rubbish finally out to the garage. Oh rats, one bit left in the fridge.
14. Stop twisting my arm, I'll tell you:rotfl::D:o:rotfl::D:o:rotfl:2 weeks ago, I was using the dining table as a potting bench, and I've only just cleared away the last of the soil bits. Still got to disinfect everything (it wasn't garden soil, it was sterilised soil from a bag, honest - I'm a nasty little !!!!!!, but I'm not *quite* that bad
:o:o).

Mineallmine, I do hope you're OK - you've done so well on your decluttering mission. Your bathroom/bedroom must be looking so clear now you've got rid of all those toiletries.
Sue14, you've done looooads in such a short space of time. Well done that girl! (ps if you've any spare energy please lob it over to mineallmine! Thanks!)
A bit slow for me over the past 2 days. I found a couple of blister packs of pills in my first aid kit with no form of identification on - will take them to the pharmacy for safe disposal. Also decluttered some old, hardened car polish to the bin today and gave a pair of gloves too large for me to a friend.
No change to paperwork total at 15, general total is at 24.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Didn't do too much de-cluttering today, but I did clear the paperwork from the computer desk (all shredded/recycled or filed), put a cardboard washing powder scoop in recycling (how many measuring scoops do I need for heck's sake?!), emptied an old ice cream tub which I use to store washing powder, but as it was cracked I binned it and started to use another one. Also, I finally used a bin freshener, which has been in a basket under the sink for years (I think it was a freebie), and finished a shower gel and put bottle into recycling box.Kitchenbunny wrote: »I decluttered my bag today. I did that the other day, wasn't planning to but was fed up with not being able to find anything, so I just tipped it upside down on the couch and binned/recycled everything that I could (supermarket receipts, shopping lists etc.) and put back tidily everything that belonged in it!

I'm pretty good at keeping clutter free because I find it easier to keep things tidy. I'm quite ruthless at getting rid of stuff but do have some personal things around the house.
However, I keep all my books and can't imagine getting rid of them. I do keep them tidy though and keep adding book cases. Running out of room though so thinking about replacing book cases with built in shelves so I can fit more in.
There's loads that I have reread multiple times either as a 'comfort' read and/or because they are so well written that every reread reveals something new. Others are kept for reference. Others because they bring back memories from when I read them. I like the aesthetics of bookshelves too and, I guess, if I'm honest it is partially snobbery in prefering books to dominate a room rather than a TV!
I would definitely let your husband keep his books.0 -

THanks for the support ocean spirit. The toiletry challenge has, in a way, changed my life. I am now really aware of stockpiling stuff which usually by the time you come to use it you no longer like anyway! It's a fab challenge. And yes the cupboards are now much barer!
I think I am a little run down (really bad headache already this morning). Have been doing a lot this week.
So to meet my challenge of 100 things decluttered in 10 days I need to get rid of another 70 things by close of play tomorrow.
Right some baby steps of decluttering:
32. 33. 34. Toiletries used up as part of challenge (recycled)
35. Library book to be returned (library)
36. Cotton bag (friend)
37. Spider that came out of cotton bag when I gave to friend, yiiiikkkkkessss! (into the wilderness, not squished)
38. 39. Make up stuff, unused (charity)
40. Broken tile (bin)
41. Old well loved t shirt, finally time to say goodbye, (ragbag for charity)
Well that's about another 10 things. Only 60 to go for my challenge !:ADeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!" Less things. Less stuff. More life.Fab thread: Long daily walks
