The Great Declutter Part 2

Lol see dh has taken to doing what you do and putting all the BOGOFs in the garage or anyting on an offer which we use..i did too and we both bought some of the same stuff which means we have 3x 48 tablets in the garage of washing tablets..so what's that..144 washes minus the packs and packs up here..sigh! it will get used but feel like we have waaaay too much!
It wasn't until last week when we had to find wage slips for our IFA that i realsied we have them backdating till 2003..hmm paperwork the next thing to do! thing is it is all neatly stored so the house doesn't look cluttered it's just till you try and find something!0 -
It took me several years to de-clutter our house and still from time to time I find I've not kept on top of something -most recent was not getting rid of DDs winter clothes that won't fit her this winter-disciovered when we got to the end of the laundry pile ready for our hol at the end of May oops!
My lightbulb moment came when hubby's cousin had her first baby 15 months after me and I was able to do her a goodie box out of duplicates, unused, never worn etc items round the house, from scratch mits to unopened baby rice and toilitires I had several of.
For a start don't go shopping without a list and checking if you ahve 1 (or 20) of them already. I had to line the surface cleaners all up in a row to convince Mr S we didn't need another each time he went shopping!
There's a de-clutter thread on oldstyle if you're interested.
Good luck.0 -
Rather than taking a black bag to it.....why not just stop buying the stuff. Otherwise you'll end up have to buy things to replace what you've chucked (at least I did)
Bookcases aren't really in the way - maybe get another one or some shelves for the bathroom if you like books in there(?)- do the bookcases have doors on them? if not, they just collect dust."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
If he loves to read a good book then get him to join the local library he can read what he wants but you dont have to store them for more than a few weeks :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Persuaded DS to let me get rid of some of his clothes which are too small for him, so had about 1 and a half bin bags for charity shop, (don't know how many items but it was a lot!), the rest of the clothes he left here when he moved out are now out of the 3 bin bags, and sealed in vacuum bags ready to take to his flat next time we go to visit, taking up a lot less room now and I got rid of the box that the vac bags were in, so a bit more clutter gone!
Also got rid of another small cardboard box and 10 small bits of cardboard - in recycling box, and have put my old cassette storage case and a few audio cassettes in the shed ready to go to the charity shop with the clothes on Saturday, and binned a lot of random crap.
Hoping to tackle the lounge tomorrow afternoon, if I've got the energy when I get home from work!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

I agree with mrcow - just stop buying stuff. My food cupboard is almost empty yet I am still able to create meals from what is left. Just stop bringing stuff home, you'll soon see how little you actually need.0

Thanks for the replies.
Spendless thanks for the declutter bit on old style was looking for a while! A list is good and my sister will laugh as i do do them..i just forget them..then we buy it 'just incase'!
mrcow i see what you are saying but i would throw away stuff we dont need..actually edit that charity shop as none of it goes in the bin. It is stuff we would use in the long run not rubbish so does get used..my point is we have too much of certain things!
xmaslolly76 he does use the library loads this is the prob and why i get annoyed the books have sat there for almost 3 years without being read..just wasted space imo..for more wshing tablets?!! Joke!
lauraspaghetti i hate having the cupboards empty tbh i like that inbetween bit, dh likes to know if one of us loses our jobs or something we will have food to eat! he has a point..last week my friend had my dd for dinner she rung me in a panic as hadn't gone food shopping and they had nothing in the house, i had to take something to her which is madness..a bit extreme i know but still..again i want food in but we don't need 13 packs of rice!0 -
Woah woah woah there, I am all for lack of clutter, but books are most definitely excluded
If someone tried to put my beautiful 500+ in some garage there'd be Words!

Out
Seven broken flowerpots and a lot of weeds from the garden
Pending Out
Belt into charity bag. Hoping I'll be able to take the bag to a charity shop on Friday, but on a tight schedule, so may have to leave it until next week.0
