Thanks Mrs Moneypenny and Welsh Totster - We actually do keep good acounts - Megs Dad does it all and is VG but the trouble is that he is the one that does it and it isnt in my head - he would be happy to share but his method would be totally different to mine and I feel so guilty about overspending or simply forgetting what I bought (I think guilty is my default condition - pass me that therapist will you!). We have actually kept a physical accounts book since we were first married (some 37 yrs ago - yikes) and its really funny to see the salaries and costs of things. Anyway I thinks its a VG idea to have an annual financial MOT so I will gather my courage and get Megs dad to devote a couple of hours to walking me through our finances (could combo it with a filing cabinet purge as well.)
Empty nester - I totally agree about being fed up with February: I have some yellow tinted cycling glasses (good for seeing in dull weather) which have a miraculous effect on my mood when I wear them: I feel so much better! (get odd looks mind you!!)
    Bon Courage everyone.
    Stay clutter-free
No new stuff unless to replace broken items that are essential.

  • I know where you're coming from Megs Mum, Mr Welsh used to deal with the joint account (ie all the bills going out) and I had no idea what we were spending jointly. So one day I sat down with him and set up the spreadsheet and we looked through all the DDs online and what was spent. Worked out what we needed and what we wanted, two very different things and I set it all up in Excel. Now I can keep an eye on things and know what we spend the hard earned readies on. The DDs for things we wanted, were cancelled and the DDs for things we needed were reassessed to see if we could get the services cheaper elsewhere.

We saved a stash of cash in the process which got stuck into the savings account. It made me feel a whole lot better to have a good sort out and to know what was what. It kinda set my mind at ease really. Good luck with getting stuck in to the MOT, its every so slightly liberating!

Slightly off topic, but I decluttered my laptop this morning. I was thinking I'd have to buy an external hard drive, or new laptop because was running out of space, but managed to free up 15gb - a quarter of the whole thing!

    Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!that's a lot of crap.:):)

My paper filing system still needs some refinement, as I needed to call doctors surgery to order repeat prescription yesterday, and I had to dig through my paperwork box to get the number - was nearly late for work as I spent so long looking! I suppose at least I knew it was in that particular box. :o

    In

10 plastic shoe boxes, two in use in bottom of wardrobe so far, rest of my shoes will be sorted out at the weekend
New pair of 'Wonder Woman' slippers :D
Tote shopping bag (been after a reusable bag for a while, will probably forget to take it out with me now - oooh that also reminds me I have a carrier bag mountain hidden inside a cupboard, must sort that at weekend too!)

    Out

Old pair of slippers (only had them a couple of months, but one had gone all lumpy and uncomfortable!)
    Magazine recycled

I've been busy at work this week and pretty tired by the time I've got home so haven't had a chance to do much decluttering - today was my day off & normally my chance to catch up on things around the house but DS was off school sick so didn't get a chance to do as much as I'd planned. I have to say though that the decluttering I've been doing recently has paid dividends because the house doesn't look quite so much like a bomb has dropped as it does normally at times like this.

My cousin dropped off some stuff that he wants me to sell on Ebay - not too much luckily & I'm going to try to get on with it asap - perhaps it will motivate me to start selling my own stuff.

Like so many others I'm feeling pretty low in energy at the moment. We all definitely need some sunshine to give us a bit of a lift.

    IN
    Lovely wool wrap
    Tea Towels
    Oven Gloves
    Wastepaper bin
    Salt mill
    Stuff to sell for cousin
    OUT
    Birthday Card to friend
    Broken Salt mill
Bag of stuff to charity shop (& nothing bought while I was in there :A)
    PENDING OUT
    Parcel for Music Magpie
Necklace & bracelet set - Belated birthday present that is nice but not my style - going to see if I can return it
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.
