Storecupboard Challenge thread for anyone who want to have a look through it. It's a long one but with so much useful info on it, it's worth an afternoons reading
HTH
Thanks for that link SunnyGirl.
I am halfway to sorting what food stuffs I have in, and don't plan on shopping for a while.
I haven't got any further with the cleaning and sorting as I took DDs to the cinema to watch Nativity again. It is a really good film and we needed a laugh.
It's quite cold out though, so now DDs have the heating turned up and quilts over them whilst they lounge on the sofas
Dinner tonight is sausages and beans for DD1 and salmon for DD2 and myself, probably with pasta. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

Pipkin I so sympathise about the mice! DS (24yo) has been hearing noises in the night the past few nights and last night spotted a mouse in his room - somehow I don't think he'll be so careless about leaving stuff like pizza crusts in their box on his floor any more! I (guiltily) woke DH to ask if he could remember where the mouse traps were, but he couldn't on the spur of the moment, so will have a look today, and we also have some of those ultrasonic things (though I can often hear them
) which are meant to make the mice decide to go elsewhere. I think DS will be reluctant to try poison, as he'd worry about perhaps not being able to find the corpse! I read in the paper the other day that a lot more people are having problems with mice now. And of course they would tend to come indoors when it's so cold.
That's the worse thing about the poison, ivyleaf - not knowing where the mice will die.
I seem to have a problem with them every winter, even though we don't leave food lying around. I notice they have been nibbling the jelly candles that were on the window sill though
What do you think about the plug in deterents? I have considered getting some good ones. I bought some cheap ones but they didn't work, which put me off. Maybe better quality ones would do the trick though
Was your son scared of the mouse? We have a friend who jumped on the table when he saw one in our kitchen. Very funny! :rotfl:There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
Hi Everyone
Hope you all had a good christmas. I have been MIA for several weeks now due to my ds2 being hit by a car and ending up with a broken leg in November which had to be pinned and have an external fixator on. He was very lucky as it could have been much worse. We ended up staying at my mums for just over a month when we got out of hospital, as she lives in a bungalow so had no access to internet. He is now allowed to put some weight on it and we are back at the consultant on 14 January, so we are now back home, came home 2 days before christmas.
I managed to get house cleaned to a degree and decorations up in 2 days. He has been very frustrated that he hasn't been able to play in the snow or go out as I couldn't push him in the wheelchair.
I have now started to try and clear some clutter from my house, going to try and do 30 mins per day on top of all the other household chores.
Hugs to anyone that needs or wants one.

Pipkin - No, he's not scared of them - just doesn't really fancy finding one in bed with him :rotfl:We got the sonic deterrents from Wilko's. I think they were about £24-odd for a pack of four, but they are guaranteed for 2 years. We put traps down as well for about a week, and caught three, and then decided to try just the deterrents, and had no trouble until last week. DH has now found one of the traps, and has put it in DS's room in hopes of catching the mouse before DS comes home later on. He's baited it with half a currant! Last time we found half a dried cranberry from his fruit-and-nut mix worked a treat, but he hasn't got any atm
I did ask in Wilko's this morning for some poison, but the manager said "Sorry, we've got none left and you're the fifth person to ask this morning!" though thye are expecting some more later in the week. I didn't see any of the deterrents in there today either! If you're thinking of trying those again, they aren't suitable if there are any other rodents in the house, but i can't remember whether you've got any. The instructions say you should allow 28 days for them to work, but perhaps we got lucky last time and there were only three mice in the first place

Sorry to hear about your aunt Rosyred. I'm glad that she enjoyed Christmas.
(((hugs))) to those feeling low or under the weather.
DSS has such a nasty cold. He and his dad had an afternoon out though and he looks better for it. I was supposed to do some studying but didn't even pick up the book (well, it was HUGE and heavy:D) and had a snuggle on the armchair under a knitted blanket and was soon in the land of nod - could hear myself snoring so I knew I wasn't properly asleep (it doesn't count:p).
Roast beef done and will slice it through the gravy and put on veggies, set table with the remaining 2 crackers for DH and DSS and then that will be it. Wine is open as I put some in the gravy (and no, I had a glass of c0ke instead:p).
I have been looking through the grocery challenge. I hope to rejoin it in Feb as we hope to be in our new home by then. Lovely DD and her OH flew out to New York today and the place is very quiet without them.
An OS evening planned here, with board games and nibbles for those not stuffed from a huge tea. DS is coming over soon but needed an afternoon sleep to help get rid of the party feeling from last night's party:)
Hope you all have a warm and cosy evening

topsyturphy - So sorry to hear about your son! I thought you hadn't been around lately but assumed you were just busy. I'm glad he's getting better. It sounds as if there will be quite a bit more snow before the end of the winter, so hopefully he will have a chance to go out in it later if he's careful x0
