HSsnowmen.gifHi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 28th December! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
xmas-smiley-010.gifMorning OS friends.hellowave.gif

Taplady - I am still remembering Janet in my prayers and thoughts.hugs.gifand your Auntie of course.
Cranky - Glad you and the house elf are doing well.
Smokey - hugs.gif
Noahs - that dress is so simple and elegant and together with those hot sexy shoes you will be absolutely stunning!
Tru - Oh clever Mogs.. that must have been really exciting for you all at Tru towers!
Bitsy - I must be the only person who is still enjoying my Christmas decoration. I didn't put them up 'til Christmas eve this year so am still really enjoying how pretty the tree is and how gorgeous the hearth looks. I will take them down around New Years I expect.
Nic1 - Sometimes it is really hard for people to reach out and I think you are doing the right thing to just keep the contact open.. even a phone call every month or so may mean the world to your friend, even if she does not express it.
LinkyPie - nice to see you posting and well done on your 2010 plan!
xmastree.gif We had a nice time with the in-laws though we overslept and my OH had to rush to get over there to pick them up, so dinner was about an hour late. His mum and dad were making jokes about passing out with hunger but we kept them supplied with wine so I don't think they minded too much and the roast was lovely. My OH really does make killer roast potatoes. The strawberry trifle made with strawberries from this summers crop was delicious too!
xmastree.gif With the huge amount of money we have to find for the car at the end of January we have decided to live as much as we can from the cupboards and freezer for January. PLUS there is a lot of stuff in there that we have probably forgotten about. I am dreading it a bit, I am HOPELESS at menu planning. If I come up with something to eat the day before I consider that planninggiggle.gif. I will try and find the Store cupboard challenge thread and then sit down with my OH and work out how much we will allow ourselves to spend on veg and milk. I am going to allow myself one more biggish shop before then to make sure we have enough flour etc for bread making.
Tristan seems to be doing Ok, physically he is getting stronger and his mood seems a lot better which is great!
I hope everyone enjoys the Bank Holiday and that the day is good to you. With love and light to all.

    Morning MSD :)

Thank you for your pm. I hope you are well and glad you had a nice time with relatives.

I'm not that great at meal planning either. I stick to it for a couple of weeks, then it goes to pot, but I'm really going to try and stick with it come the new year, as it does make life easier.

I've given up on trying to get any decent sleep. I start to drift off, but then I'm up again, clock-watching. It didn't help that I caught a mouse in a trap, in my bedroom  and heard the poison tray rattling shortly after the trap went off :mad:

My foot is quite painful this morning, but have just rubbed some stuff in and put one of those tight covers on it [can't remember right now what they're called, but are for sprains and stuff :o:D].

I've done the ironing already, and there's a load in the wm, so that might be my lot for today, although I'm going to try and do one cupboard in the kitchen.

My to do list, from yesterday:

    Art cupboard.
    Side cupboard.
    Bookcase.
    3 work units.
    Mobile unit.

I also want to stock take food supplies, ready for meal planning in the new year.

    Fridge.
    Freezer.
    Work unit.

DDs want to go out later, so that's a possible. I haven't been out for a over a week  what with the icy weather and stuff.

Hope everyone has a good day today. I will pop on from time to time, to catch up with everyone's day :)

  • Morning All,

I'm still at work just coming to the end of my 1st night shift. Today will be mainly taken up by sleeping, whilst my DH catches up with the ironing watching football.....:j

Not done loads at work but still feel that it has been quite productive.......

Hope you all have a fab day....and of course hugs to anyone who needs one.....or just wants one x
  • Morning all

My body clock is set for 5am which seems to coincide with my OH snoring! giggle. Today we will be clearing out closets looking for any clothing that has not been worn, etc and adding to the microwave (very burnt smell despite lots of cleaning and vanilla essence for weeks!), books, shoes and clothes already bagged and ready for the charity shop. I only eBay items of value more than £10 and quite honestly I have neither the time nor the space for the stuff... that is my goal today - declutter a bit...

I too will catch up on my ironing but more importantly I really really need to get a few more words down on paper or my assignment will be late! 2200 word short story due in on 4th Jan but I want to have it done and sent by 1st of Jan.

Enjoy the last Monday of 2009 everyone!
Well lets see - I dip in and out of MSE all the time but I still come back - have done since 2007!!!

    Morning All

Our delayed Christmas meal went off well. Due to DS & GF arriving earlier than expected, they popped off to see two of his cousins with kids and catch up with them, collecting some spinch we needed for the meal while they were out, we had to substitute basil for tarragon as we could not get any without going miles, and I had a pot of basil. DS offered to do the cooking, which I accepted apart from helping with the rolling and putting together of the pastry.

Started was Prawns & Scallops in Cream Sambuca Sauce, we have this sauce at a local restaurant and find it to die for so brought a bottle of Sambuca back from a recent trip, and used low fat Elmlea to assist DHis fat intolerance, and it was perfect,:j:jDS got full marks as I left him to making this course. I had got the Scallops as a treat, but DS's GF didn't like them and DS wasn't keen so DS & myself had to eat extra;).

The main was Salmon Encroute, which was also to die for, with roasted carrots, parsnips and butternut squash and new potatoes. I got the Salmon from our local fish market bought a whole one for £9.95 which they skinned and filleted for me, and it made this dish, which we only managed half, and two other fillets in the freezer and some pieces to add to a fish pie I made yesterday. I cheated and bought the puff pastry to make it an easier dish, but we destalked the spinach, cooked it in the basil butter, and then layered it pastry, spinach, one fillet of salmon, basil butter, the other fillet, and spinach and then top of the pastry, just cooked nice moist and tasty.:j

The dessert was a chocolat sponge pudding, ate about an hour later:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I had 1 glass of white wine and 2 glasses of wine over several hours, and suffered for it all night, why does red wine bring on night sweats, much as I like it, I think I am going to give it up.:eek::eek:

Today they will visit DH's brother and DS's Godmother, and this evening they are eating out for a local friend's birthday. Also a mini mountain of DS's washing appears to have materialised:rolleyes:. Tomorrow we have a wedding all day.

    Take care

    Morning

Halight - Twin is ok now x
Diva - Good news on Tris :T
Pipkin - Hope your foot feels better x
DG - Meal sounds lovely, always wanted to try scallops but never do :o
Up early today , which is rubbish cos i like my bed , but no point laying there with DD2 poking me, which would in turn wake DS up. So up i am WM and TD will be earning their keep today. Tea tonight not sure yet. As everyone else meal plan has gone out the window recently, knowing how easy it is when i do is a bit stupid really.
    Today's To Do List.
Move DD2 presents to her BR
    Clean Bathroom
    The Usual Kitchen/FR/Hallway
    Washing/Drying
Take all rubbish to tip (binmen didn't come before xmas because of the snow)

Amongst that i WILL find sometime for myself :D.

Hope you all have a lovely day xx
You know your getting old when you
go to the pub sit outside
and admire the hanging basket
    Is officially 48% tight :D
  • Morning you lot.

MSD - have a huge tax bill due at the end of January so we too will be trying to eat from stores.

Donny - that meal sounds lovely.

Had a nice day yesterday, popped into town which was empty, nothing from M&S but got a nice pair of jeans in the sale from DP's, also have spent some Xmas money & vouchers on half price leather boots from New Look, and a sonic toothbrush £46 from £120 on Amazon. That will do for my sale shopping.

Did get yesterdays ironing done but there will be more today so will aim to get that cleared as well. Not sure what we are doing today, need to wait for everyone to get up. It may be a visit to the pictures (got odeon vouchers for Xmas) or I will have my neice over for a day of playing games. She is desperate to do that so we may be playing Cluedo, Monopoly and Pictionary.

Turkey is all gone but have some ham leftover and party food so think will be a buffet style tea. Will make a loaf in the breadmaker in a mo.

Considering the amount of people we had here Xmas day the house isn't looking too bad though may try and hoover and wash the floors.

When I popped in Iceland yesterday I saw that they have a whole range of Stardrop cleaners - Kitchen cleaner, Window Cleaner, Bathroom and floor. Think MSE has revitalised that particular company!

Anyway off for a little surf, everyone else is still asleep. Have a happy Bank Holiday.x
  • Morning All.
I don't Menu plan MSD, I make a list of what meals I can make out of what's in stock, it's sort of building block system. I usually decide in the morning before I go to work what I'm going to eat & hopefully remember to get what's needed out of the freezer. Maybe you'd find this way easier.
Had a lovely visit from DS1 yesterday, sorted out what he's doing with his car (which is sat on my drive) I served salad & cake, as he said he'd had enough rich food to last him for ages, & sent him home with some cake, lemon curd cake & weetabix brownies.
WM is on DW will go on after breakfast & need to make another loaf of bread, & there is more ironing to do.
    Have a good day everyone
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

All quiet here at the mo - DS is up with me, have sent H back to bed. He's been in DS's bed all night and suffered for it. I just don't know know what to do......his clingy-ness for H is now making him wake more often in the night looking for him  Its trying to find the right balance so DS doesn't get too stressed and wake DD in the process
I need to pop to supermarket today, might head to Morrisons as don't go there very often. H went looking for some reduced turkeys but none were reduced unfortunately :(
H has agreed to give budgeting a go and we're going to make more of an effort to make his lunch each day for work, been a bit slack here and its shown in the bank balance :o I want to start a sealed savings jar, I've got to start saving money towards out summer holiday. OK it's only camping but now DS is at nursery that means taking our hols at the most expensive time of year

Am loving reading the Complete Tightwad Gazette, very inspiring although it's just such a massive book! Its going to take me a good couple of months at this rate (and I am reading it every day).

Put away most of the decs - only the tree is still up and the outdoor lights although I confess that last night I was toying with the idea of putting the tree down today :o House looks really bare now, can't win either way - too cluttered or too empty :rotfl:

Starting to get myself psyched for 2010 and new years resolutions - I really want to shift this baby weight and I keep trying for a couple of days and then giving up. I am getting a bit fed up with all the sweet stuff we have around the house so it's a clear sign I've been eating too much of it :o
so in no particular order my resolutions are to:
    • lose weight and get fit!!! My new Wii game Just Dance definately works up a sweat and is great fun :)
    • Start to declutter and reorganise, especially with all the toys the kids have
    • Flylady - last few weeks apart from the basics, bathroom, kitchen and vac-ing downstairs everything else has been left by the wayside :o
    • Meal Planning - stick to it and stay organised
Think that's enough on my plate for now :rotfl:
Have a good day OS or not. Hugs to those that need them.

Diva - Glad to hear Tris is doing OK xx

Pipkin - hope your poorly foot feels better soon xx

    Good morning,

Been up since 5am again, sigh. At least the house elf is a good boy going to bed at night, and he usually sleeps well all night, so I shouldn't complain.

I have just finished my Asda online order. If I actually took the house elf to Asda it would cost me more than the £3.50 delivery charge in "things he might like to eat" :rotfl:I am also a firm believer that busy shops and small children do not go together.

I have ironing to do today and a few bits to put away at the top of the house. Dinner will be a freezer hm ready meal, but I may make a batch of spag bol for the house elf as he's eaten his way through all the ones out of the freezer - it's one of his favourites, and you can hide so much veg in it :rotfl:

    Take care all of you

OH and I exhausted by it.frazzled.gif I have decided we are going to a softplay this morning to let him run about and when we get back am sending OH to go to his friends for a while to get out of the way;) and DS and I will bake some cakes.
Am also taking the decs down today to tell DS Xmas is finished in the hope it will give him some normality back and calm him down.
