ok dont have a go but i think my local tesco say parent and parking for 5 years and under maybe thats what the op means , so she shouldnt be blamed for following rules, we wouldnt feel sorry for anyone parked on a double yellow or a danguress place, or for following the highway code, but reality i dont no why the age restision my teenager is as bad with doors etc as my 7 year old, thank god for child locks , oh and im a crap driver lol

I agree with globalds, car parking spaces are not big enough. My husbands Lexus has got 3 massive dings where inconsiderate people have opened doors into it, and I am not defending his choice of car because I don't actually like it, and I hate leaving my Mini in supermarket car parks because a lot of people don't care when they open doors.
I have nothing against p&c or disable spaces I just wish all spaces were as generous in size.

  • My children are 9 and 12, if the signs state parent and child, I will park in it - however, if it states parent and toddler (some actually do say this), I do not park there. Saying that, at what age would parent and child not come into effect 60 with a 40 year old???

I think Tesco have changed their policy to under 3, not under 5.

As for the poster that said they would report any damage to their car to their insurance company then fair enough, check to see if your policy covers accidents on private land away from a public highway, but reporting it to the police for leave the scene I think they will laugh at you. The crime is to leave the scene of an accident, but it needs to be on a public highway and therefore supermarket carparks do not count. Just as people will say parking tickets in supermarkets are not valid.

It makes my blood boil that everyone else is treated as 2nd class citizens because they don't insist on taking their family of brats to the shop to cause an inconvenience to everyone else.
what a pathethic excuse for a human being, im guessing something has happened in your life meaning you can't have child or you chose not to have them when you were younger then when you wanted them it was too late so it has turned you into a vile little person.....shame on you

on the topic though, car parking spaces in general are too small, people are inconsiderate. I am also very happy to take my son shopping because i know i can get a decent width parking space and i wont have some prat swinging a car door open and denting/scratching my car my they are too stupid to park straight or just too damn ignorant to be mindful of others property.
Personally i dont care wheter these wider spaces are next to the entrance or not but they are very helfpul when you need to get kids in and out of car
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

The OP clearly thinks they are a right, and one confined to those with babies ........in a few years I suspect her age range will rise to accomodate her older child;)

All it takes is a bit of care to get a car seat out, and the ability to park correctly between the lines.

I do not think they are a right. Read all the posts.

Of course what makes it worse is then if somebody "abuses" a P&C space they are then presented with an illegal and unenforcible "fine". What's that all about?

P&C spacers are just another supermarket marketing ploy, just like loyalty cards and BOGOFS. Nothing else.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Its not about parking near an entrance, it's about the extra space that allows you to open a door veeery wide to get a child out. In my local supermarket, they arent right next to the store.

So, by that reasoning, it would be OK for fat people to use them, or people with wide cars, or anyone who has trouble getting in and out of the car in a normal space?

You don't NEED a P&C space. Honestly, if you tried, you could manage without. I always have done. Stop being a baby.

I fall into the latter camp, and before you label me a male, child hater, let me enlighten you......I am female, have 4 kids, and can park on a supermarket car park in a normal sized car, in a normal sized space, get a babyseat out, and restrain my kids long enough to get them into the store safely, without scraping the car next to me.

P&C spaces are a sop to the vocal mummy brigade who cannot park ordrive their 4x4's, or maybe just cannot park full stop, maybe they are convenient to have, but they are not a right, and not a necessity.

    Are you me??!! :rotfl:
