  • I've just read your news, and I'm so sorry for you and your family..my heart goes out to you all, and make sure you look after yourself..

I'm glad you're looking forward to the furniture - it's definitely an investment, and good storage is an essential. It's a really good investment - we've got cheap flat pack furniture at the moment, which was still probably about £200 per triple wardrobe (1 each for me and OH). Eventually we'll get some decent wardrobes, but still saving for the wedding so that'll have to come in time..

Take care and well done on the overpayments you've just made x
June wins: 2 x Robbie Williams tickets, iPad mini, £200 skatehut voucher :)

A huge thank you to all posters xx
  • Just updated signature and am so happy that the mortgage is coming down and that we are now in the 158k figure (only just!!!!) :j:j. Am also on target for the MFiT-T2 challenge and i really thought at the start of it that we would never meet our targets. Have a lot of bills this month and next month though so things may slow down a bit.
    Quidco cashback of £9.91 paid:D

How is everyone else getting on?????????

Woooo Hooooo.....Got credit card statement this morning and have been credited with £59.32 in cashback for the year!!!! :D:j. This is completely "free money" as we pay the balance in full every month.... to think that this time last year i didnt even know there was such a thing as a cashback credit card :D. Of course this has been duly rounded up to £60 and been transferred to the mortgage account..........i do believe i am becoming obsessed :rotfl::rotfl:.

Wow, well done WABL!!! What credit card do you use? I had an Amex cash back one, but relatively few outlets seem to accept it, so now I rarely use it.

Thanks guys, the credit card is a "bank of ireland" one, its a bit weird because when i checked old statements it alwas paid 0.5% cashback but about six months ago it increased to 1%. I am thinking that maybe when you spend over a certain amount the percentage of cashback increases...not sure, but dont want to ring and enquire incase its a mistake and they want the money back......:rotfl::rotfl:.

BEDROOM FURNITURE HAS ARRIVED!!!!:j:D:j. I am really pleased with how it looks and have spent all day sorting clothes etc.
    Have a good weekend everyone.

  • Hi everyone, its been a while since i updated, not much happening on the MFW front.
£8.11 due from Quidco so i have rounded this up to £10.00 and paid it off the mortgage.:j
My latest frugal purchase are "eco balls" for the washing machine, the idea being that you do not need powder etc. Am a bit dubious how these will work out as i like the smell of the detergent/softener on my clothes. I am using about half the amount of powder with the ecoballs as an experiment and it seems to be working well :D
Have done a really big grocery shop from Mr A that i am hoping will more or less last the month with a few top ups in between, hopefully this will keep the grocery budget more on track.
I am due a small payrise next month that i have worked out will be £45.00 extra per month after tax and deductions so i am considering increasing my monthly payment by this much because i will not miss the money.....decisions, decisions.
Mortgage payment comes out tomorrow so am looking forward to updating my signature, although it takes a few days to show up with halifax online.

    hi wabl,

i would definitely add your rise to the mortgage then you wont even realise about it or miss it :) you'd be amazed how much that would effect your balance.

like the idea of the eco ball, is there something similar for the dryer? not that i use that very often of course!

quidco is doing my head in, ive been waiting for cashback for insurance for nearly 10 months now

im halifax as well and mine comes out on thursday. :)
    MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
EMFD was Feb 32  NOW Dec 2013 its Dec 2016
MF new target Dec 16 REACHED!! :j
  • Hi Pammy and thanks for the reply, yes i think i will take your advised and add the extra money onto the mortgage payment, was working out last night that by overpaying it on the mortgage i will shave off another 18 months!!! :j:j
The ecoballs seem to be working well and am only using about 1/3 of the normal detergent so hopefully will be a big saving on that and also helpful for the environment :D. MIL tried the dryer balls and didnt think they were much good, am trying to cut down on the tumble dryer myself....but on a day like that there is no chance of getting things dried. My conservatory currently looks like a launderette.

Halifax have updated the mortgage balance online and next month it should start with.....157k...Yipee....i actually feel like we are making progress now. I am trying so hard to keep the momentum going and i have got so much inspiration from reading everyones diaries.

I have really noticed a change in OH's attitude about the MFW thing...at the start i could almost see his eyes glazing over at the mere mention of becoming mortgage free and he never got involved with it at all.
Recently OH's dad was made redundant and would have been the main earner as his mum only works a few hours a week. They are in their mid 50's and still have a fairly big mortgage left, as you can imagine the financial stress and worry that they are under is enormous.
OH has said several times over the last few weeks that he doesnt want to be in that situation at that age.......so i took this as the perfect opportunity for a bit of an education on spreadsheets...:rotfl::rotfl:.
It was literally like someone switching on a lightbulb in his head...so hopefully with him on board we can step it up a gear.
