Cash from Baking??

I've just read through this whole thread, I'm so inspired! I LOVE baking but am not very good yet, not enough practice! I'm thinking of trying to set up a cupcake stall at my university maybe once a month or something. I've seen people doing that for charity things so I don't think there would be a problem with regard to actually selling the cakes, but whether they'd let me do it for profit I don't know.
It's my brother's birthday at the weekend though and I want to make him some little cupcakes... so hopefully I'll be able to contribute some cupcake pictures soon!
I have a question though... what kind of recipe do you use for cupcakes? When I've made them before I used a very standard "white cake" recipe, and they were really nice. Is that the best kind to use or do you use different ones, like madeira or victoria sponge or something?
Also, if you have any decoration ideas for manly cupcakes suitable for a 20 year old boy then I'd love suggestions!0 -
I use a vanilla cupcake recipe, I got it from joyofbaking.com and it never fails.
Im just plain with my decorations, I pipe the icing and add some small decorations. You could do the Rocky Road cupcakes for boys, they are nice.
These were for a friend mum and dad, so I made the lilac ones for the girls and rocky road for the boys.Saving 2.00 coinsGrocerys set to 40.00 pwBeing Thrifty0 -

Ohh yummm. I actually think I might give that a go, but it depends on how many pennies I can gather together, because using all that stuff is going to be a more expensive recipe. But I might do Brother's birthday cakes with the same batch as my Christmas cupcakes but decorate them differently. Two birds; one cupcake.0

I use whatever left of sweets chocoaltes I have at the time. Its a chocolate cupcake recipe which has cocoa in it, from the joy of baking. you dont use as much buttericing as you just dollop enough on for it to stick the sweets/chocs on. and you dont have to drizzle chocolate. :TSaving 2.00 coinsGrocerys set to 40.00 pwBeing Thrifty0 -
