Oooh thanks for the photography tutorial, my pictures always look really rubbish!

Personally, I don't think that would make it easier for me. I don't find it hard to cover a cake in fondant, if you put both your arms under and lift it like that, works fine. Thanks for sharing though :)

I went to the cafe and she said she'd let me know, she said she'd be honest and not mess me about so i'm hoping to hear from her tomorrow. We were going to go in for breakfast tomorrow as OH is off work but I can't now, she'll think i'm only going in to get an answer! :rotfl:

  • Hi Esmer and All

Esmer, good to hear you are still "in the loop" with this thread as well. You and I seem to be in the same position.

It was really interesting reading those posts from the EHO. Wish she was in my area!! She took a realistic viewpoint whereas in my neck of the woods they really don't want anyone working from a "normal" kitchen. I think if I had a big new modern house with a utility room (washing machine in there) and a double sink in the kitchen, all lovely worktop surfaces I'd probably get passed. Mind you, if I lived in a house with a kitchen like that I probably wouldn't be so anxious to earn a few pounds...could just sit back and drink coffee and do my nails!!! I just wanted to find a way to earn some money whilst my kids are young and I'm at home.

I get the gist from the EHO though, basically register yourself by putting in the forms and then wait until you are stopped!! However, it seems a big step as I'd hate anyone who'd bought a cake from me to then look and discover that my kitchen had failed for all the reasons they can fail it. Even though I'm not sure it is entirely necessary to have a double sink etc, if it is put in formal writing on a Health Inspection Report as being a risk to hygiene it wouldn't sound too great.

It does seem as if that butcher's food poisoning case in Lanark has made the Scottish EHO's particularly stringent. It is great that other areas are more accomodating but you would think they should all be singing from the same hymn sheet.

Have you thought of just "going for it" and wait until you are shut down??

Hate to put what might seem like a downer post on such a positive thread, but maybe it is good once in a while to have posts like this that show that not all EHO's pass you automatically (in Scotland anyway) so that people aren't disappointed.

Again, very well done to all of you who have been passed and are living the dream!!! I love reading all your stories and can share in the excitement with you - you are a talented bunch of people and deserve every success!!!!

I'm still baking (it's like a disease, I can't help it - I am a baking addict!!) but at the moment just for home and friends.

    *Comes in Crying*

I just bought one of those Silicone cupcake pans from the works. I thought oooooh I could make a Devils Food Cake with this pan. That'll taste yuuuummy. So I mixed it, cooked it and it stuck to the bloody sides and was under cooked :( Such a waste of ingredients.

I suppose it was a learning curve though.

I also bought that 100 piece cake decorating set for £2.99 and one of the main items I wanted in there was missing so I have to take it back and swap it. :( Bad day all round for me in the cake world.

Anyone have a better Day than me?

    Hiya,

They are just Vanilla cupcakes baked with cases on. then when they cool. I just halved them....... spread on jam, and then I piped in buttercream and put the top back on........ then dusted with icing sugar. I put them in fairy cases so they would fan out and you could see the cake.
