Would you do it as a 3d thing with an actual model or as a picture?

I have been asked to do a cake for somebody who likes running - now I am still a novice so I can't do anything too intricate. I thought of doing a pair of trainers on top of a cake, but wondered if anybody had any other ideas I could do?

What type of runner is the cake for?

I don't know as I haven't yet spoken to the woman - I had a call from a friend who works with the lady who saw the Xmas cake I made for said friend and she asked if I would do something for her friend who is middle aged, and does a lot of running - that is all I know at this stage. I am very new to it and so am not great at designing things, and don't have lots of equipment to make anything too fancy yet! I have made a Spongebob cake, a Hello Kitty cake and a football cake, all of which turned out really well. I am very nervous about doing something for somebody else at the moment which is why I want to keep it rather simple. She wants a fruit cake with white icing on it as a base, so that is simple enough, I just wanted a relatively simple idea to put on it - which is why I thought of modelling a pair of trainers out of icing. My writing skills with icing aren't great - I need somebody to show me how do to it well as I find that quite difficult!!

Hello everyone, I've been lurking for months looking at all your beautiful cakes and reading the advice. I have been baking for many years just for family and friends and I think it is time to take the plunge and venture into the big wide world .
I have spoken to Env Health today and the lady was very nice. She said the requirements for home baking are quite minimal and she said she could come out next week . I have downloaded the form I need but I am stuck with the level 2 food safety course. Can I ask which online providers anyone has used? Env Health lady said it must be CIEH accredited and it seems to be a bit of a minefield reading the small print lol. Thank you for any help!

    Hi, long-time lurker here ;)

what you could do is to print off the writing then use a scriber or old run-out pen and press through the paper onto the fondant, then ice over the indentations (if this makes sense). Or you could pr!ck through the paper with a pin.

    Hi
    I used this company
    http://www.virtual-college.co.uk/products/food-hygiene-catering.aspxhink
I also got 10% off when I searched google, I think it was 10% for childminders if you want to do a search.
I found the information very clear and the the exam wasnt too hard. My certificate came very promptly
    Hope this helps x
