It must be hard not being able to talk to your family about christmas, my mum and me are mad about christmas. My parents have always gone OTT at christmas (never on cc tho had to be cash) and my dp is a tesco manager so luckily he has to think christmas early because of work!

Im soooooooooooooooooo stupidly excited and for me like many others its the build up thats the most important!!!
  • Went to poundland today for the first time!! Bought my silver platter plate thingys :) Yippee thats another thing off the list!
Also bought giant chocolate coins for my sisters christmas eve hamper. Really excited about that, hope they like it :D

Hi all, this isnt about presents as such but still about xmas and saving money! Ive been asked to decorate the table at our Christmas dinner with my boyfriends parents and his family (12-15 people in all) I was just looking for money saving ideas for things to put on there??

All ive thought of so far is xmas table cloths (throw away type), crackers and ive got xmas bits to spread about but thats all I can think of really!

I know there must be more than that? Theyre all contributing food but as I cant cook this was the safest bet lol x

How about getting some cheap glass vase things and filling them with christmas baubles or pine cone type bits. It's also quite nice when people tie their napkins in the middle with ribbon and thread a cinnamon stick through the ribbon. We sometimes tie large wired ribbons round the back of the chairs and they look really pretty!

I don't think its ever too early to listen to Christmas music! Why do we feel the need to hide our love of all things christmassy??

Hi all, glad to see the Christmas Carols are being sung - got told off at work for whistling one earlier

We've been buying for the last three months (except wrapping/cards which were bought from Marks and Spencers in Jan at 25p a roll and 50p a pack of cards!)

Excluding our kids, we 34 nephews and neices, two sets of parents, two grandparents and my Wife's brothers and sisters to buy for. We've set a limit of about £5 each for the kids and £10 for the others. Parents, depends on what we find, we were contemplating buying one set a new TV but then realised they'd expect the same next year

So far we have 26 bought for and expect to finish and paid for all by Oct 30th.

The question I have is what to get our kids. I've vowed to personally put consumer spending and confidence to an all time high and spend £200 on each. Only what to get them? They have iPods, Wii, Xbox 360 and computer access. DD is 11 and DS is 13. I thought about a kindle for DS as he reads alot and would get a lot of use out of it but that's all my imagination could amount.

    Any ideas would be appreciated!
30th June 2021 completely debt free…. Downsized, reduced working hours and living the dream.
  • morning all,

yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...................christmas dvds just arrived , almost knocked the postman over to get to them....he commented that whatever they were must be good to get me moving so quick in a morning! watched the chilean miners being rescued yesterday and me and hubby thought how heartwarming it was to see them all get out and seeing their families etc-hubby commented that he needed some more heart warming stuff and sugested we start watching the xmas stuff soon....so that was a bonus.

my list is coming along nicely but want to keep within a strictish.... budget if possible but still get nice stuff.

yummymummy1987 - no one in the family is interested in christmas until the last couple of weeks then they all go into mad panic headless chicken mode and wonder why they are skint and stressed!!! start early be organised spread the cost-= less stress and more enjoyment to me. as for the pressies i am the same as you if i have the money saved or spare in my purse i will buy my kids what i can but when its gone thats it - refuse to put it on the cards. had to laugh though because the family all accepted my invite to christmas lunch , that it seems was acceptable!!!
