    Had the car for three weeks now and I have reset the MPG counter each time I have filled up. I am getting around 26-28mpg at the moment and that's with the odd blast on the motorway. If I thrash it then it can drop to 20mpg-23mpg. Getting a dreamscience remap next week so that may improve things.
    let us know how it goes.

  • I just sold mine BMW 320i E90 2006!

    It has cost me £257 pcm (inc depreciation & £50 worth of petrol per month). Not bad eh?

    But, I drove it on weekends only so it works out to £59 per day :D

    Since it's cheaper to rent, I got rid of it. Was a nice car though.

    It does 70 mpg diesel, I do not have to fill it up much, probably about £40 per month.

    Insurance is £250 per year

    Auto aid £39.00
  • Thanks to everyone for the replies - my non-MSE friends look at me as if I'm nuts when I question them about such things :confused:. I'm not even going to mention the frugal challenge to anyone :D

    I don't feel so bad now, after reading these posts, although my Scenic doesn't really compare to some of your cars! The amount I spend on running my car isn't too bad when it's compared to public transport, which sadly isn't an option most of the time for me.
    & as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

    Fuel, road tax, insurance, breakdown cover, MOT, servicing and depreciation works out about £1500 per year for my 54 plate C-Max 2.0TDCi.
    All in all, about £4.10 per day.

    I am so shocked with this, I worked it out with my car.
    Monthly payments for car - £306.20 x 12 = 3674.40
    Insurance for car - £762.70
    Tax - £190
    Petrol £40 per week - £2080

    = 6707.10 :eek: thats scary! £128.63 per week!

    and that doesn't include any repairs or servicing :(

    Insurance £98 pa
    Mileage 10k @ 55mpg = 182gallons = £892
    1.5 sets of tyres per year = £150
    Servicing = £300
    Tax = £60
    MOT = £28

    So that works out at about £4.18 per day

    Not too bad, but more than i thought.

    How?

    Road tax = £125
    depreciation (On Autotrader the value for an 2005 is £4000ish, and the value of a 2004 is approx £3500 - so £500 seems a reasonable estimate) = £500
    Breakdown cover (assuming basic AA cover) = £28
    MoT = £40
    Servicing, repairs and parts = £300ish (if you are lucky)
    Insurance (could vary wildly so I assumed 40 year old, full no claims, rural area) = £250

    That lot comes to £1243, leaving just £257 for fuel for the year. So either you are doing an incredibly low annual mileage (it's enough to buy about 50 gallons of diesel - so about 2000 miles per year) or you aren't including all the figures.

    Or one of my assumptions is out (very likely) and it makes a major difference to the sums involved. :D
  • No one seems to have factored in the costs of parking or road tolls either?
