Personally, I think there are some staple things you can buy (cheaply of course) to make using old and cheap products feel more special. Like:
A good set of make up brushes
x
After the conversation we had in this thread about washing brushes, I had a good look at mine and was horrified to see how awful they were! The bristles were really damaged and the sponge on the eyeshadow smudge brush was ripped so I decided to invest in a whole new set.
I'd seen on lots of the beauty blogs I read that ELF (eyeslipsface.com) was really good, so had a look. £1.50 per brush!! Can you believe that?! I paid £10 for my Barry M powder brush and ruined it. So I spent £9 on a full set of the brushes I use (blusher, eyeshadow, eyeshadow smudge, concealer, eyeliner) and I have to say, I am SO impressed with these brushes.
They're really soft, don't shed at all and are great at picking up product and applying it smoothly. They're very sturdy as well - not at all flimsy. I really would recommend these brushes if you need new. Very MSE!0 -
That's fab!!! I've got some Mac brushes (pre MSE
) that are looking a little wosre for wear but I got my £40 Body Shop brushes for free with the 3-4-2 offer at Christmas Complete bargain!!

That would not happen to me as I would be covered up from head to toe :rotfl:, ooh I love my pjs and my free Primark dressing gown!!! Put yer jammies on missus!
Me tooDoes anybody else feel as though they must use every single last scrap of a toiletry they have purchased? I remember someone else mentioning earlier in the thread about cutting the end off a tube to get the last dregs out.
Even if I don't like a product I feel utterly compelled to use every last drop - almost like a punishment for me buying it in the first place when I didn't need it. This is just an observation about myself really, but was wondering if I am alone?
Yep...I add water to get the dregs of shampoo out and cut open conditioner bottles, toothpaste, body lotion...anything I can open up with my scissors reallyCompletelyLost wrote: »What do you all do when it comes to Lush products and their expiry dates? Sniff them. If they smell ok then they'll be fine0 -

I used to be really wasteful using shampoo and conditioner in the shower and bubble bath. I used to use way too much, there would always be lots of it sploshed around the walls and floor of the shower! I'm trying to use the right amount now . Products are lasting much longer now!
Wash my hair every night, so it just needs one lather and I dispense the shampoo and conditioner a bit more carefully. Some containers have openings that the stuff comes out too quickly/easily and positively encourages you to use too much!
Clever manufacturers, aren't they?
I used to find that, so I bought some small pump dispensers. I now know how many 'pumps' of each product are required for optimum cleaning and no waste, and would heartily recommend them to you. I got mine for about 50p each out of a bargain bin in a homeware shop. Keep an eye out to see if you can get any cheaply. My shampoo, conditioner and facewash last ages longer now. Please call me 'Pickle'

R.E. cotton wool pads: for those of you with a Home and Bargain locally, I would absolutely recommend their cotton wool pads: you can buy the MASSIVE ones so you need to use fewer of them, and a pack of two packs is £1.29, I think - it's been a while since I have needed to buy some). Also, I have used Liz Earle products before now, and they come with a muslin cloth which is used for removing the cleanser, and it seems that they can be used to for the same purpose, whatever the cleanser. They can be washed and reunised many, many times and are delicate enough to use on the face as well as better for the envirnoment. You can buy some mulsin at a material shop for a song and make your own (my mum bought acres of it for £5 for steaming Christmas puddings), or buy some for not much money (I saw a pack of 6 on Ebay for £2.99 last time I looked). I have started to use "pleat" cotton wool Mainly cos it was cheap in boots clearance. A large pack was 27p which I thought was quite cheap. It lasts forever, I opened it in November, we both use it daily- and its still not even a 3rd gone. If it was balls or pads, it would have been used up by now! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I buy cotton pads from Savers, they do packs of 200 for 99p i think (i have about 5 packs!)
I also split them in half once ive put toner etc on them and that makes them last longer - 1 disc makes 2 thinner discs
I also use Liz Earle products and have been using them for about 5 years. I still have the original muslin cloths and they are still perfectly fine to use, although not as white as they once were! They get softer and softer the more you use them and for me are gentle enough to use on my eyes. I use them to remove the masks and other treatment products too
I also have a thousand ear buds in a huge tub that was about £1, great for removing eyeshadow from under my eyes and touching up any smudges of mascaraSaving my pennies for my wedding on 10th August 2013!:j

I use the Lidl 'ISEREE' cotton wool pads, they are quite cheap (maybe 60 or 70p), you get 120 in a pack. I really like them, they don't fall apart (it says they have 'sealed edges' on the pack) and they are nice and soft.I'm buying No More Toiletries, I'm Deluttering and I'm Losing Weight for 2010!0
