Thing is whern you think of it what good is a recommendation- I can recommend the Toni & guy jamelia as it works for me, others hate it. At the end of the day, producers dont really care how much you like the product- especially compared to others, simply that you buy it.

That is SOO true: I know lots and lots of people who rave about how amazing Herbal Essences is for their hair, but it just makes mine go greasy and nasty-looking.

  • What do you find it does? I have a finishing spray (john Freida) and I don't think it does much. I rarely use it. :o

I have hair prone to be dry, and, excitingly my tip is...minimise use of the hair dryer. My hair is curly so when I do use the dryer I use it with a diffuser on mainly the lowest heat and power settings, most often I let it air dry. (A benefit of curls). But I remember when I was little and, in the main, my mother and her friends looked totally glam washing and drying once a week. :o I note that my mother and her close friends have often commented I wash my hair too often. I think I manage my hair fine, in fact well, because I get lots and lots of compliments about it, but I can't help wonder if sometimes I create problems I then need to remedy with all this primping:o
I use to have very dry hair and now only wash it every other day and try not to blow dry too much if possible (i have straight hair) and this has done the trick. Also i always use a good conditioner, and once a week if its very dry i pop olive oil in it, wrap my hair in cling film and pop a warm towel on it for half hour before i wash it. But its not been dry for ages now and the hairdresser says i sould try seeing if i can get by without washing it for as long as possible, cause washing it can strip out all te natural oils.

Took a day's holiday from work today and had a busy day.

Painted my toes (been doing some DIY and nails on hand a mess despite using loads of handcreams & nail food!).

Did my roots using half of a hair colourant I have had for ages. A hairdresser told me to split a hair colour instead of buying the expensive root packs and it works out much cheaper, just measure out the amounts and mix. I do roots approx every 6 weeks (the grey seems to be taking over if I leave it any longer) and every 3rd time I do a full head which is what she recommended to stop colour build-up.

I then cut my son's hair (he's 21 and I have been cutting it since he was about 3).

Then I went and donated blood - 3rd time lucky, last 2 times been turned down for one reason or another.

Did a bit of retail therapy but didn't buy any toiletries, just a bit of browsing as I will need to buy some soap (can't for the hell of me find my stash) and some toothpaste for my son as just open the last pack (he's not having my Sensodyne Pronamel - bought 7 when I saw it in Tesco last year reduced to £1 before the packs changed).

Product I would never buy again - Elvive Shampoo (pink bottle), bought it once when on bogof at Tesco, before I got a chance to use I got the same one in the post to trial and hated the shampoo it seemed to strip my hair, the conditioner slightly improved it but I put the stuff I bought in my car boot stuff last year.

Can I ask what exactly the OCM (oil cleansing) is, I keep seeing it mentioned but must have missed the original explanation and this thread seems to grow by the minute.

Have managed to get rid of quite a bit since starting this either by throwing some things I don't like away and using up quite a few items but still loads to go at least a year for most things.

I wish I could resist buying chocoates like I am resisting buying toiletries.

    None of it!

Really I will just buy Aussie Shampoo and conditioner,
    Radox shower gel,
    Silverkrin hairspray,
    a serum,
asda smart price mousse, (I like it!)
a moisturiser, not decided which yet as I have so many darn samples to use,
    Asda facial wipes
bubble bath, not bothered really what as I don't have many baths.
Makeup I will only ever replace when it is used, repeat green eye shadow does not suit you!!
What ones are these? Are they good?

I got 3 :o of those Aussie sets on Amazon, 2 Mega Locks and 1 Moisture. They are in the stash, waiting patiently to be used or given as a present! :D I might have to keep one of each as the scarves are so pretty!
    I like presents. :D

    ---

I think I'll be booking a holiday this week so I'll get a real use for all the toiletry mini's I bought around Christmas! I've always taken full-size (new) products for week long holidays incase I ran out. (Where has the rolleyes smiley gone?!) No wonder my luggage was always huge and heavy. :(
How long does a mini (50ml?) shampoo/shower gel usually last on average? Say a shower a day.
Also, are disposable razors any good, and especially for taking on holidays?
I really wanted the S&G Plane Jane giftset for the bag and the neck pillow but couldn't manage to get one in the 50% Boots sale. Only available on S&G's own site for £18 now. :(

I think you can over wash it & alot of those sprays actually gunk up your hair attract air pollution - makes it stick to it.
That's definitely true, I think I notice it more because I'm blonde and if I use lots of sprays or waxes and spend a day in the city my hair looks really dull when I get home.
Also, lots of shampoos and conditioners contain loads of silicone, Pantene is particularly guilty of this. It coats your hair, makes it feel nice and soft for a day at the most, next day your hair feels really heavy and in need of another wash. Result is you go through a bottle in a matter of days and they can sell you more. It's a huge false economy. I can get away with not washing my hair for 3 days, I use Redken shampoo, which is expensive but definitely makes a huge difference.

    Best explanations given here:

Its long, but not as long as this.

the key they don't give on the internet guides is to experiment till you find whats right for you with it... tips given by MSE users have been far more useful to me than any other special OCM source on the net :)

Over the weekend I managed to use up:

1 bubble bath bar from Lush grab bag last year, and it was a Hallowen one so over 15 months old, full of bits and not very nice. I really need to use up the oldest of lush stuff I have before I move onto the 2 OH got me for Birthday and Christmas (I don't actually have much bath stuff left, and so this could be one of my first things to run out  WIBA: Not this one no, my OH does buy me a couple for birthday and Christmas and knows not to buy ones with too many bits in!

Bottle of Space NK perfume my brother bought me for my birthday 15 months ago. WIBA: I did like it and would use it if I got it as a present but not enough to buy myself.

Otherwise just plodding on through, went to town on Saturday and came out of Boots empty handed :A

My hairdresser advised my dd not to use Pantene shampoo as it has silicone in it which makes your hair shiny the fist time you use it but after a while it builds up and make it dull.

Maybe it was silicone rather than polymers! Oops. Either way, my hairdresser gave me almost exactly the same advice.

I finally managed to finish some things - a tube of toothpaste and a wee tube of Pantene shampoo. :j Now its back to the half used (and hated!) huge bottle of Pantene! This one was from a product test I did ages a go. WIBA - no way! Pantene and my hair hate each other... My hair always feels wierd after using it! :rotfl:

Ditch it - quite honestly, it's not worth ruining your hair for. One thing that might be worth trying before you do though is using it with the matching conditioner to see if it works better with it's matching product. If it doesn;t though, time to lose it I reckon'

I am painting blue today for Paint Your Nails Monday. I have several products on the go that I don't like, and none of them want to finish, even though they look empty. And I wouldn't buy any of the things I have managed to finish again. Blue Monday indeed!

I've got one or two like that too Sophy - maddening isn't it! I've skipped PYNM this week as I had too much to do this evening. Might try for a Paint Your Nails Tuesday instead! :rotfl:
I'm going to break the mold here: I hate Boots P&P. It did nothing or me and peeled on my skin and felt icky. I do use a serum, but not that one. Still, thats why choice is such a great thing. I had hoped P&P would be it, because its cheaper than what I use, but c'est la vie. The back of my hands benefitted from mine until it was used up.

The two best serums I've used are an Estee Lauder one (I think it was Idealist) and Olay Regenerist. The P&P one would run a close third I think though - when we go on holiday I use that and an SPF 15 tinted moisturiser and pretty much no other makeup at all for a fortnight - very liberating!
