Well, I've finally finished something, but only a large bottle of Pro-V conditioner. I've only got one more of those left in store, so I'm going to replace like with like, leaving my better conditioners to cheer me up later when I've finished this monster bottle. I nearly bought a gift set yesterday, but luckily something held me back from picking it up and I quickly walked away :rotfl:

Salesaddict, I used to be a bit like you and buy things just because they were bargains, or I'd get excited about something I'd read about in a magazine that was new, or had great reviews so I'd just have to track it down and try it myself. Half the fun was sourcing it and being one of the ones who'd managed to get one.

Last year I decided I was going to put a stop to it. It hasn't been easy, and I do have the odd lapse. To be honest, the problem is the stash I've built up, which I really should use up first, but I prefer Lush.

What I do is stop and ask myself if I'm buying it because it's "a bargain" or do I need it, or would I have bought it if it wasn't reduced, and 9 times out of 10 I end up putting it back. If its a "must-have" product I've read about, I wait to see more reviews, usually from people on here, to see if it's worth the fuss. For example, the mad rush on the Cargo lash activator. The magazine review had it down as a total miracle, after reading reviews on here, the verdict seemed to be generally that it wasn't all that. So I didn't buy it.

I nearly got caught up in the S&G hatbox frenzy, and had one in my basket, got to the checkout and thought I don't actually need it, I only want a couple of things really that's in it, so I emptied my basket.

And having said all that, I did lapse yesterday *holds hand out to be slapped* and bought some perfume from Lush. BUT it wasn't an impulse purchase, it was something I'd wanted for a while and it's only available on the website. Still not good, I know, especially when I've got so much perfume already.

Lynseydee, I have a couple of body lotions/creams on the go. I use the richer ones/body butters on a night time or on very dry skin, and the lighter ones through the day.

Can't remember who was looking for lipbalm, but I can recommend the Bodyshop Hemp lip protector. It stays on for ages and is very effective. Carmex is also good.

But you are getting there...it's about redefining your priorities and learning as you go. I went to B&M yesterday to buy some more handcream an they had no more of the Vaseline Intensive Care in, but they had the Neutrogena Anti-Ageing in instead for £1.49, so I bouight one to try. If it's any good, I will buy one more to have in my 'stash'.

Wishing you all the very best Salesaddict. Whatever help i can be, just yell up :)

    WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU.

Another tip Ive thought of for those of you with box sets/components sat aside you wont use, make up items unused etc- you could start wrapping them for Xmas now to keep them out of harms way.

Then they will no longer be your stash they will be a head start on this years Xmas/ birthday gifts gift for teachers at the end of term etc etc

  • Hi all, Just popped in to catch up. Good luck salesaddict, I'm sure you will get a lot of support on here for cutting back your spending. I think it is very easy to get "sucked in" to the consumer frenzy of what you should have, and what you should be buying. I'm sure we have all been there!!

At least you can see lots of other people have bad habits, and you are not alone!! Admitting you have a problem is the first step...:A

    I've been Money Tipped!
Feeling a little smug. I did not buy anymore Estee Lauder night serum yesterday, just going to see how long I can make what I have last. We finished another ''not best'' conditioner yesterday.

My stash is no where near as ....huge....as some peoples. A lot is from the odd silly purchase, poor discipline about finsihing things, and moving from having two places we were living to one. And DH definitely worse at random toiletry finds. I am a magpie for makeup and have been looking away from discount eyeshadows, lipsticks and nail polihes.

Oh, and I finished a foundation I bought and didn't like today, I have another of those too, so thats next on my list.

This is really scary. I have just gone through and added up how much my stash comes to (and obviously there are items I don't have a price for so it will be worse) and it totals £1,030.27 . That would nearly pay off one of my credit cards

Wow i don't dare do mine!! I have just sold on ebay two bottles of Molton Brown shower gel and a Molton Brown hand cream that i managed not to open the minute they arrived.
