    Hi Salesaddict,

Just wanted to say your not alone. I watch this thread and it helps me realise i am not the only one. I am in 36k of debt from my compulsive shopping. I have 3 boxes of partially used avon, showergels covering my bathroom. I once brought 6 hair dyes in various colours just because i knew i was dying my hair this year.

So here i am trying to sort myself out avoiding my avon book that keeps coming. embarassed i have got us into this state

Anyways dont want to bore you all anymore but just wanted to say we are all here to try and sort ourselves out and we are all here for each other.
    xx

Alamaya, you're lucky you only have 3 boxes of Avon, I have 6 crates of it and have only just managed to fit it all into 6 not to mention the 3 drawer fulls in my chest of draws and 2 drawers of my bedside table .

This is really scary. I have just gone through and added up how much my stash comes to (and obviously there are items I don't have a price for so it will be worse) and it totals £1,030.27 . That would nearly pay off one of my credit cards

Is it bad this made me feel better.

I am just so over the top. Got braces last year at £2900. (which to be fair i needed) i did not need to spend almost 300 pounds on fancy toothbrushes, flosses, interdental brushes.

Its like i pick a think and then just buy buy buy.

Its shocking itsnt it and im worried mine would probably be worse than that as i went through quite a long QVC spell with their expensive products :o

As ive said before i have about 76 Liz Earle products, mostly bought from TSV's or the kits on her site but they must still work out at about £10 each = thats roughly £700 say

Thats not including my 40 odd shower/bath gels that are all Molton Brown, Philosophy, L'occitaine, Body Shop - again say £10 each = £400

I have body scrubs that include once which were £12 each, think i have 4 of those! = £48

Body Shop body butters that were between £5 and £15, i have about 7 of these = £49 ish

I have loads more too

The thing that really depresses me is i dont use any of it. I've said earlier on the thread that i buy 2 or more of the same product and hoard them but im too affraid to use them. I like seeing everything all lined up and looking pretty and i start to panic when im running low on a product :o

BUT im proud of myself as since 1st Jan i havent bought anything :D No Smellies, no clothes, no magazines, no jewellery and no bits of rubbish that i want on the spare of the moment.

In other years i would have just bought things without thinking about it. I would think nothing of spending £50 on a nice bit of jewellery or £40 on a QVC TSV, but ive started to put things into perspective and realise that i dont NEED all this "stuff" and that i probably already had something similar at home anyway :o

At the moment my main focus is to save as much money as i can for my new flat which is due to complete on 8th Feb :j
When ever i feel like spending, i take a minute and think of the money in real term - i.e a £10 note and pound coins and i find i dont want the item anymore. Id rather spend that £10 odd on a roll of wallpaper or a new lampshade :rotfl:
Although im now starting to think my new obsession might be DIY shops :rotfl:

Sorry for long post, have a good rest of the weekend everyone :D

I'm glad to say that I haven't bought any Avon for about 2-3 months now and do you know what, I don't miss it one bit. Can I start to say I'm on the road to recovery :T

I have just had a thought, would it be wrong to have 2 body lotions on the go? The one I'm currently using which I use on my legs after I have shaved them but which is too thick to use as a body lotion and a thinner lotion to use on my arms when I get out of the shower in the mornings.

The only reason I am asking is that I am a bit OCD about having more than 1 product open at the same time but they would in effect be for two different purposes so technically wouldn't count, would they?

Salesaddict, I used to be a bit like you and buy things just because they were bargains, or I'd get excited about something I'd read about in a magazine that was new, or had great reviews so I'd just have to track it down and try it myself. Half the fun was sourcing it and being one of the ones who'd managed to get one.

Last year I decided I was going to put a stop to it. It hasn't been easy, and I do have the odd lapse. To be honest, the problem is the stash I've built up, which I really should use up first, but I prefer Lush.

What I do is stop and ask myself if I'm buying it because it's "a bargain" or do I need it, or would I have bought it if it wasn't reduced, and 9 times out of 10 I end up putting it back. If its a "must-have" product I've read about, I wait to see more reviews, usually from people on here, to see if it's worth the fuss. For example, the mad rush on the Cargo lash activator. The magazine review had it down as a total miracle, after reading reviews on here, the verdict seemed to be generally that it wasn't all that. So I didn't buy it.

I nearly got caught up in the S&G hatbox frenzy, and had one in my basket, got to the checkout and thought I don't actually need it, I only want a couple of things really that's in it, so I emptied my basket.

And having said all that, I did lapse yesterday *holds hand out to be slapped* and bought some perfume from Lush. BUT it wasn't an impulse purchase, it was something I'd wanted for a while and it's only available on the website. Still not good, I know, especially when I've got so much perfume already.

LynzP, did you get the L'Oreal Refinisher from Home Bargains? I bought two boxes of that when I saw it (see, I should have only bought one but it was the thrill of the bargain).

Lynseydee, I have a couple of body lotions/creams on the go. I use the richer ones/body butters on a night time or on very dry skin, and the lighter ones through the day.

Can't remember who was looking for lipbalm, but I can recommend the Bodyshop Hemp lip protector. It stays on for ages and is very effective. Carmex is also good.
