re=dehumidifier

Hi, Merry Xmas moneysavers. having purchased and used a Ebac smart dehumidifier to combat condensation, it has now reduced it a lot, so much that it seems to collect a little during the day and about 1-2 pints at night. as it is 250 watts, would it be more economical and as efficient to keep it on economy all day or put it on timer, dusk till dawn.?also, is it better sited upstairs or downstairs now condensation is under control?

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Definitely more economical if you dont have it on all the time
Mine is on all the time but ive lowered the setting so that its livable without being too dry (Ie, it only actually operates if its too humid)

  • i leave mine on econ. try the lower settigns and see if it keeps the condensation away. it says in the manual that the eco setting might not be suitable for all houses. mine is on the landing but struggles to keep the window near the fridge free of water. i still have to wipe it but i guess warm air is blown over it all night.

Thanks Guys, As you both say, It should only operate when humid, yet it seems to be on constantly, yet collects very little during the day. I don.t want it too dry, and plaster cracking, it,s on the landing. I think I will turn stat down,as it,s on Econ, see how that works, then try it on timer, I think it,s trial and error as you say , 250 watts 12hours to collect a pint doesn,t seem viable, and costly;I would have thought it would have collected more during day when heating is on than night when its cooler and heating off? Appreciate your replies, Happy new year.

I understood the "smart" bit detected times of high humidity in your house and automatically turns itself on and off.
That may explain why it collects less during the day, perhaps there is less activity in the house. Baths ,sinks, kettles getting used more later on in the day and the humidity collecting? It was also come on first thing in the morning

Hi, I also thought the "smart" Auto adjusted itself to the relative humidity in the air, that,s why I am a bit confused as to why the fan is always on with little water gathered.I would have expected the fan to shut down now and then as my windows are all clear now, thank goodness. It,s certainly done the job. Adjusting the "stat" to me defeats the "smart" function, as you are going manual. Thanks for reply.

My one's fan only stays on when the fan symbol is yellow, when it's green it goes on and off automatically but perhaps it is a different model (Z850e). In theory it should be upstairs because that's where the hot air goes but maybe you don't want to hear it at night. I just keep mine on all the time in winter. I'm not sure about economy...keeping it on seems to make my house feel warmer.

If you have a cheaper electricity rate during the night, running it then on a timer would be cheaper. Set the level and then leave it on timer. It should then run when it needs to overnight to keep the humidity at the desired level.
  • mine is a 2850. when it is on auto or econ it turns itself on and off. if you have the rain drop symbols that is the manual settings. if you switch to a yellow fan symbol then that is for if you have the upgrade filter which cleans the air as well.

so i have it set to the lowest fan speed, green fan icon, and on econ. seems to work ok for our house. somedays it gathers about 1ltr, others about 2.5. doesnt seem to be a pattern to the amount of water collected. it does use a bit of electricity but i didnt want to worry about mould growing in the walls, wardrobes etc. previously we did have quite rapid mould growth on the walls in the corners of the bedrooms but nothing since we got the ebac.

Hi, Thanks again everyone. mine is identical to yours, although I have it yellow/econ.similar amount, I did not know that changing the air purifier to yellow alters the fan speed. The literature they give is terrible, it has all the air filters. I cannot understand how changing to yellow alters anything, surely the air is drawn in through the filters and out the front irrespective of colour? You say yours turns off, occassionally, does the symbol stop rotating when it,s off? perhaps my humidity is still too high for the smart to stop, even though it collects little during the day.nothing at all on windows now, I was forever wiping them AM.and mould growth . thanks again all

    Hi, interesting all this.
As far as I understand yellow fan is constant and green is auto regardless of any other settings.
I have a problem when it is on yellow, it ices up after a couple of days. I onced e-mailed ebacabout this and they were very helpful, it could be a fault so I normally just keep it on green. I live in an Edwardian house and still have to wipe the condensation off windows...not so bad with the dehumidifier on and the house feels warmer,
    Cheers,
    D.
