Thanks everyone. I have one of the black ones which I wear quite a bit because it's very 'me', the beads are onyx so it feels nice and substantial. I saw a necklace which I liked in a shop earlier so I might have a go at making something similar tonight.

    Hi everyone

Has anyone ever tried threading beads onto watches?

as Ive just bought some watch faces thinking I would do this but just thinking Im not sure whether tigertail wire will be strong enough? what does everyone think?
I was thinking two strands of beads with a toggle fastening

Also for those of you who make the memory wire bracelets...Ive bought some of that to make some bracelets and wondered how you finish off the ends? do you just curl the wire around to make the beads stay on?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
I made a new strap for my watch using elasticated thread and glass beads I put the link to my pic's on here (not sure what page but only 1 or 2 back).
I am going to redo it though as I didn't do it tight enough

Here is the link again if you want a quick look :D

Hart44 made one, she posted about it a couple of pages back (ain't it sweet?). I think she made it with elastic.
I am always a bit wary of those toggle clasps, have you used them much? I was just thinking with the weight of the watch face might it come loose a bit more often than usual?

As for the memory wire - have a look at the pics on this thread or have a look on Folksy or Etsy and search for memory wire bracelets to see how they have been finished.
You can just turn the end in a kind of loop (I do) or add a stopper bead (a bead with a hole in one end only) and glue it on, or fold the wire over in half (about 3-5mm) flush with each other, but you have to use a small bead as your last bead so they dont all come off.

    Hi Kandi,
Im going to redo my watch as it a bit loose but this time Im going to double the elastc tread/cord. It has been on and off my wrist so many times since I made it and it still is as strong :D so no probs with it breaking or comming apart.

I dont like my watches near my hand.

Hope to catch up with you all tonight after work :D

  • Nichelette...those necklaces are amazing.I love the red one.

Thanks everyone for the advice...I thought the same about toggle fasteners...I keep seeing bracelets made with them but Ive never actually tried making anything with them yet - I just couldnt think how else to make them but didnt think of elastic.

if I was to use elastic how do you tie it on...just tie it on or would it fall off? I have some plastic coated elastic but it always unties easily. Is there a special beading elastic I can buy? if so what is it called please?

Hart44 I love your watch.I love the look of beaded watches but the ones Ive seen to buy are £95 which is why I wanted to try making one.

Thanks for all of your help

I'd be interested to know too, I stupidly accidently bought some thinking it was something else so it has sat in my drawer for the last 4 years! I guessed it might be used with seed beads but I don't really want to get into seed beads, I could be completely wrong though.

Tiger tail is a beading wire, you can string beads on, they dont have to be seed beads, and you finish them off with a crimp,

Nichelette ~ those necklaces are beautiful!

Laura & Nichelette ~ You can do loads with tigertail - these earrings and bracelets were made with tigertail:
