Stupid question but if you were to buy this then would you just need to buy beads? I am presuming that starter kit is everything for basic jewellry? Where do you get all of your beads from and what kind of size do you need to earrings/bracelets/bookmarks and bag charms?
Poppy I did get your PM yesterday but can't find the tape measure to reply to it!!

Kandipandi - Love all of your things but I absolutely adore the bag charms!! Do you sell them? or make to sell?

Nice to see you in here! Yes the starter kit would only require beads. I buy a lot of mine from Jillybeads, online or in our area I go to Hobbycraft (quite expensive) or Rosarama Beads at Ryton.
For the bookmarks I made I used a mixture of individual beads and mixes from Jillybeads mainly. You can buy a mixed bag of similar colours in loads of different sizes for about £2-4. For example this bracelet and earrlings...

I made from a mix like this (not the same one as it is not in stock) with some added Swarovski bits.

Its a matter of what size you want to make, but I use a right mixture, some of these mixes are quite good to start with. I must say I was suprised at how small the bag was when it came but I have enough beads left from that bag to make another set like this with some left over.

I am making this stuff for pleasure at the moment, I was planning to give to people them as gifts to the girlies in my family (but there are only a couple!).
I have spent a fortune on bits though recently and think I will have to attend a craft fayre at the end of the year to try and recoup some of the cost:o

Hi Rusty- it all depends on what you are wanting to make. The kit I suggested has findings for earrings, necklace and bracelet. For things like bag charms you would need some chain and swivel clasps and more head pins.

I do think the kit is good value as I paid more than the kit price for one pair of pliers.

For beads - Jilly Beads, PJ Beads and Ebay are great. Also Hobbycraft have loads to choose from but as mentioned they can be pricey... not sure what Dainty Supplies prices are like either. I`ll be popping up for a nose once little one has arrived tho!

Bracelet wise do you have one that you could measure on a ruler maybe?

There is a rather simple one here, but it is very effective I think.

Thankyou for the replies!! I like the idea but I would just sit and make things up and they would be for nothing/no one!! I do this with my cards, I only send my cards to family and the ladies off the cardmaking thread!! I don't know if I would be able to get to grips with Jewelry making or not?

Poppy are you in the NE?? where abouts? Kandipandi are you also up here??
    I am in Blyth :D

Poppy about to send you a PM :)

I bought some cheap fimo at the weekend, and hoped to make some beads. Can anyone give me some tips on making the holes in the middle, without squashing the whole bead. I have tried letting them stand overnight after making, half cooking them, but nothing seems to work. thanks

I also struggle with this. i find Fimo Classic is great as it is firmer and holds its shape better, but it takes a bit of working to get it pliable in the first place.
You can buy a bead roller (check out craft cellar.co.uk) you roll the beads and theres a wee hole for poking the needle through so they dont squash. theres a few good vids on you tube, I like the ones by crafts beautiful mag, she is brilliant and uses one on there, ill try and find her using it and post a link. The bead roller is around £8-£9

artydoll - the link Kandipandi put on about how to do button necklaces is more or less how I do mine (I don't have such pretty buttons though -working my way through mums button jar). They look ok when they're done..........least next door neighbours daughter things so.........she's a trendy 16 yr old and quite honest with opinions. I've done 4 now -next step is bracelets.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !
