When it comes to memory wire you need three things

    1. old wire cutters, DO NOT use your bestest ones as the wire will kill them without mercy

    2. A pair of old round nose pliers, again just incase your wire decides to kill them and you are left plier-less and unable to bead till the shops open.

    3. Brute Force, to bend the wire, just be brutal with it and show it who's boss, and always bend it in the opposite direction than it is going, so where it's curving inwards to make the coil of the bracelet, form the hoop in the opposite way, it not only is slightly easier, but it stops the natural curve of the wire givinb you problems while bending.

I took a young married woman to one of my favourite mill shops today. They now sell beads, not huge choice but the prices are great. Get a small plastic ziploc bag, about 4" high, and you can fill it for £3!! I bought lots of beads for my memory wire bracelets, smaller than focal but bigger than seed. The beads worked out at less than 1p each so a good buy I thought. They were various sizes and colous but no fancy ones. I thought they would be good to add to my stash and I can just buy a few focal and I have tons of seed beads and bugle beads.

    Lovely bracelets Taypier
  • Thanks Yukki...

Yes now when i asked the woman from the sandstones shop on ebay about using crimp beads she specifically told me to buy the glue as the crimp beads were harsh on the illusion wire over time...might end up tearing the wire etc. I had seen it done with that before you see... The crimp beads would def have held the beds in place but might have ended up looking a bit untidy, so i liked the idea of glue but its not worked in practice.... maybe I'm using too little glue not putting it in the right places!!

Jo - thanks for the tips on the memory wire.. i guess I'll give it a try and if finding it difficult I could pick up a pair like on that ebay link.. its only like £4. I have just bough precut memory wire at the mo, if i end up buying big rools of it will pick up some memory wire cutters.

I must post some pics of my tools.. I bought a set for a tenner and I'm not sure what some of them would be used for!!

Taypier - cant see photobucket at work.. looking forward to seeing them once home!

What glue did she tell you to use? you need E3000 or E6000 or something like that, I use the Make Me jewellery glue, available at a lot of craft places, it dries clear and is meant for holding various jewellery 'things' in place
  • Me and a friend are thinking of going to the Hobbycrafts show at the NEC at the end of March.

Has anyone been to a NEC craft show before....are there many jewellery stalls.
