hi all im just getting together some supplies to start making my jewellery
im wanting to make some bracelets with the stretchy "wire" (you know the sort the see through stuff lol) but im not too sure which thickness im going to need? im putting on it swarovski crystals with poss a few slightly bigger beads, im just looking now and theres all different thicknesses, im so confused.com!
Also when you make the memory wire bracelets where do you guys get your beads from? Youve all made lovely bracelets with a wide variety of beads but my collection which ive bought so far arent nearly as nice, can you get a "wholesale" size bag as maybe a starter bag, and what are the larger beads called?
Sorry for all the questions lol x
I just buy bits and pieces that I like and before long you have loads of beads different sizes, textures in varying colours that you can put together.0 -
suppose im just to eager and want to get started now lol but my supplies are rather small ha ha!
any idea about the "wire" thickness?0 -
Hi suze
You would need to check the size of the holes in your beads first, usually a 4mm swarovski bicone has apx 1mm hole so I would go for the 0.8mm stretch magic elastic.
As yukki says - I get my beads from all different places and buy what I like and what will work together with beads I have.
There isn`t a name for large beads as such. If you have a Hobbycraft near by check them out as they do a huge range of beads in all different sizes.
Jilly Beads, PJ Beads, The Little Beader and Ebay are all great places to look.

I've been making!
My two cluster necklaces use a range of beads. The green one is using Peridot beads which is the birthstone for August. All silver plated findings on this chain, but if I were to sell it I was thinking £4.50 - £5 what do you all think of that price?
And this is a pink one which doesn't have a birthstone meaning to it.0 -
yukkibear those are both lovely! how did you make them? im new to all of this still waiting for my beads and things to arrive!
I do have another question tho what size memory wire do all of you guys use? I ordered some the other day 60mm totally not thinking and its arrived and looks too small to make bracelets out of?? x0 -
Re memory wire, I'm not sure what size I get, but it's usually listed as bracelet memory wire so I know it'll be big enough iyswim.
The necklaces I have made with jump rings made into a chain and then put beads on headpins and placed the loops through the jump rings to make a cluster, then threaded onto a snake chain.0 -
yukkibear - they are gorgeous
This is something I would love to get into...just not enough time in the day! lol
:wave:Hi, I have a passion for crafting.......I'm always up to something :rotfl::rotfl:
:j I have found the key to weight loss.....ZUMBA :j0 -
60mm diameter... I think is the standard bracelet size, so you're fine...
Yukki, those are gorgeous.. would be interested to know... have you just attached multiple jump ringsd or is it a little stretch of chain?
Also.. guys.. see in making the hoops at the end of the mmemory wire....what do you use? Just a round nose plier? I had found a video on youtube, which i cant acces at the mo cos I'm at work, where she used this type of thing...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260443739170&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
which has the concave edge...
Looks a lot easier.. I tried using the round nose pliers last night on an old necklace last night to try the loop thing.. i thought it was memory wire.. I have some on order from jillybeads, so will be able to compare soon .. but i found it quite difficult to make it loop, so wonder if it was a harsher wire type than memory wire.
Also.. have you experinced guys ever done illusion necklaces... ? If you have I'd be interested in asking you a question about how you glue the beads. I made an illusion style bracelet for my wedding day, which I love but I guess I wasn't very good at the glueing as the beads have started to move! I have the right glue as I asked the sandstones person when i was making them what to buy and its the stuff that kind of ends up like putty? Again.. stuff at home so can't give you the right name!0 -
Just jump rings put together Kelda.
Yes round nose pliers are fine just to make a loop on the end of the memory wire bracelet.
I've made an illusion necklace before and I used crimp beads to keep the beads in place.0
