Hello bubbles, welcome to the thread :)

I'd like to suggest www.sewandso.co.uk - not sure if they have a lot of kits under £5, however they do have a good range of smaller ones, so I'm sure you'll find something you'll like. They are usually having a sale of some sort. :o

EDIT: Just found this one in the sale for under a fiver:

Ooh, ooh, my threads AND my lap-frame have arrived today!!! :j:j

Have to get all my baking done first, before getting going. Taking a friend out to her diabetic clinic this afternoon, then have to walk dog and make tea....why does everything have to happen today!! Also out tomorrow taking said friend to the hospital eye clinic....will take a small UFO in with me...but still desperate to start on my Astronomer!

Talk later, if I am not too busy sorting my threads! :D

  • wow just found this thread (no punn intended :-) ) on here. I have been cross-stitching on and off for a long time but am getting into it again as I am determined to finish a project for my daughters room which I started when she was born (she is now 2). I did one for my son two but that took 7 years - luckily he stilled love it and he is getting into cross stitch too (not sure he will be when he is 13+ though lol) :-) Fab site links by the way for cheaper kits, thanks. I also find it theraputic, you are so busy concentrating that your worries don't get a chance to fester in your brain :-)

I think thats exactly why it will help me, at the moment all I do is mull on things that have happened and I cant control the past. I need something that would preoccupy me to get rid of those thoughts. The fact you have something beautiful at the end to show off and say I made that is a bonus.

Well after today I have come to the conclusion that you all (especially MRSMC & Louise) have got cross stitching machines!
I have spent a good 2 1/2 hours today on stitching and have hardly anything to show for it :o
I have done the little bit of wording and started on the borders of my project but it looks so insubstantial.

I'm also having second thoughts about stitching a wedding acceptance. I think that to get in all the words I want to, it will just end up way too big. I want to use lower case letters as well as capitals so to make the letters/words readable they have to be quite big.
I was thinking maybe stitch the word acceptance for the front and print out some nice font for the wording inside?

Unless you good ladies can think of something to say inside that doesn't use too many words?
    I was thinking maybe....

'Shelly and Dave kindly accept the invitation to your wedding'....
even those few words seem a lot when I think of stitching them....

Oooooo MRSM if you have one of those machines - I want one!!!:D:rotfl:

    *Gets inventing*:rotfl:

I do think that's a lot to have to stitch into a small space, it might end up the size of a small picture lol. I would go with the word 'Acceptance' and perhaps a stitched wedding motif and/or border and then print the full details inside. Also if you go with 18ct fabric(or even smaller stitching if you prefer) you can get more on the card....

Oh - my Mystic stitch 'Lighthouse of dreams' pattern arrived from the USA this morning and I have spent time drooling over the design :o

It's even bigger than the Lake pic *gulp*

Lots of info with in the pattern booklet though, including how big the design will be on diff size fabric, stitching tips etc, really impressed with the company.

Now I'm off to google for a 'stitch count ruler' that MummyClaire mentioned. Didn't know they existed and if they do what I think they do I [STRIKE]want one[/STRIKE] need one :rotfl:

Edited to add ~ Found a free printable stitch count ruler if anyone is interested http://www.countrycrossstitchkits.co.uk/acatalog/Stitch-Count-Rulers.html

yep thats basically what i have :) ... mine is just a plastic one so you can also draw a line alccross the straight edges too :D .... i think it was only 99p or £1.99 so they are no more expensive then a standard ruler :)

i have no finished my mums 50th birthday pic ... will add it to my facebook soon and post the link so you can all see it (if you want too) :)

my next project is the door signs for my mates kids and her mates kids :)

    xxx
    CrossStitch WIP's :
Fairy door signs for - Amber , Serenity and Mia
    Alien door sign for Dylan

Ivor the engine still to complete ... and i'm sure i have others that only have a few stitches in that need to be done :D

Thanks for the advice about using a higher ct fabric. I hadn't thought of that at all :o I'm just so used to using the fabric that comes with a kit that I forget about the different types and count sizes of fabric available.
