That design looks much more detailed -so I thought it would have been a lot more stitches ..there must be lots of 1 of this and 1 of that in it to give it all that detail
SHELLY -I use across town..4 threads would cost you £1.48 + £1 postage and they accept PAYPAl.... not sure if there is anywhere cheaper

Thanks so much! I have edited my previous post but didn't need to because these are very cheap!

Though having just looked on the site I am now seriously swaying towards buying either the DMC 'light effect' or 'satin' threads.
I want the threads to stitch a wedding acceptance so want it too look as good as I can make it and I think the thread I mention would look better than just standard threads.

    Hi everyone.
I've just read through the past weeks worth of posts to catch up on what I've missed. I've had a busy week. I think I've been through every emotion possible! It was my cousins 21st birthday a few days ago, and last weekend she was having a party. My Grandma & I were supposed to be going to it, but when I arrived in Gloucester the day before the party, I couldn't get hold of my Grandma. I'd been calling all day and no answer. Not that unusual as she often doesn't hear the phone ringing. I caught the bus over there and tried knocking on the door and shouting through the letterbox. No answer. It was still daylight and the curtains in the downstairs window were closed, which I thought was a bit odd, so I was a bit concerned.
Her neighbour came home whilst I was knocking on the door and I asked if she had seen Grandma in the past few days. She said no, but told me to come in and go into the garden to see if I could see anything. I could see that the living room light was on, so I knew she had to be inside-she's fanatical about turning lights off. Her neighbour said it was ok to climb over the fence (now, that was a sight!) so I did and luckily the back door was unlocked.
Grandma was lying on the floor in the living room & I couldn't get her to wake up, so I called 999. She came to a bit whilst we were waiting for the paramedics, but her speech was slurred and she wasn't at all 'right'.

They said that night that she had a chest infection, but they werent sure what else was wrong. The next day they did a CT scan, but apparently strokes don't show up on them for about a week. The Dr did say on Monday that they suspected she had a urinary infection, so they'd put her on antibiotics for that, but there's still a chance she did have a major stroke. She was sleeping a lot and when we did get her to open her eyes, she didn't look like she recognised us and couldn't talk properly. Mum & I really thought that this was it, but the Dr said the meds would take 24-48 hours to start working, so we should see what happens in that time. By that evening, she was opening her eyes more and the next morning she was well enough to have a cuppa!

She's improved more every time we visited and on Friday she was able to hold a cup herself and drink from it without a straw. She's speaking much better and although she still gets a bit confused, she's definately improving. She was moved to a different hospital on Saturday, and I came home yesterday, although I hope to go back and visit in a few weeks.

What a drama, though! I was so worried about her. She'll be 90 in March, so she's doing well for her age. She still lives on her own, but hopefully after this she'll agree to visits from a carer every day.

Back onto the subject of stitching, my Dad took me out to Evesham country park, which has a needlework shop. They had a sale on, so I picked up a few things, but when I went to pay, Dad paid for me and said they would be a birthday present. :) My birthday isn't until June, but he said he wanted to buy me something he knows I'd like and when it comes to cross stitch, he wouldn't have a clue what to get!

I haven't done any stitching all week, and I have a lot on this week, but I hope to do a few hours tomorrow or Thursday.

Thanks Maria, Shelly & Louise. Yes, she's very independent and also stubborn, but this might have scared her enough to accept some help. It certainly scared me! Really happy she's getting better.

    Hi all,

Some fab works coming along there. I was soo impressed I got the following 4 done (in what about 2 weeks??) for my mum and she loved them.

Bit of a question tho...... the magnets, coaster and keyrings are too thin - I have had to use sellotape to keep the 2 sides together - are there special ones you need to buy that are deeper???

Am gonna go back to my kittens now, but take a night out a week to work on birthday/ christmas/ easter stuff so I don't have to have a 2 week rush job again.....now what have I done with the list I wrote of what to stitch for who.......
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

Oh ruth, glad you're gran is feeling a bit better now, hope you are ok too as that would scare anyone :)

I forgot to tell you all about my stitching mishap, i'm glad i can laugh about this. I was pulling the needle through towards me and it knotted which in turn caused the needle to go flying and wrap around my glasses. The needle hit my eye side on luckily, might not have been so good with the pointy end. Trying to unravel it without poking myself in the eye was just as fun :rotfl:
