Ooooh, ooooh, I have my Astronomer! :j:j
I plan on ordering the threads later (acrosstown ofcourse!)...just a question for all those H&E specialists (this is my first H&E design): how accurate is their estimates for skein numbers? Most of mine seem to be 1000inches, with a skein at 313 inches. Now there are 3.2 (approx!) skeins to a 1000 inches, so should I be cautious and over-buy, getting 4 of each? There are 120 colours, so this is going to be quite a lot. There are a few with 5000 inches usage...that makes 16 for them...
Mind you, the extra threads will always come in handy for other projects!!! Just not sure whether I should/can fork our for them all at once...
Must go and get washed and dressed, or I will be sitting here at the 'puter all day and I have to go out later!!!
I am also thinking about copying the charts (all 45 pages!!), so I won't mess up the originals when I work.
Can any-one give me any other helpful hints please? Especially Mrs M and Louise who are H&E specialists!

ooohhhh excitement Keiss:j
Now thats a very technical question and working out you have going on :rotfl:
I work it out like you that :-
8m to a skein multiply by 100 to turn into 800cm -then divide by 2.5 -to make 320 inches -but then if Im right (always a first time) - have you forgotten that you divide your 8m skein into 6 strands
Im getting all confuddled thinking about it too
So far -my HAE design seems to be fine for the threads I got -but I only needed 1 of each as its a smaller design- BUT I have ordered exactly what they recomend for the bigger one I have to do...
Im sure I saw Jayne from sew along mention something about the number of threads and the HAE designs being off -Im off to have a nosey and see if I can find it...I will be back
OK Im back -nope -it was Kreinlik thread that was mentioned not HAE designs...
oh and yes I would photo copy the chart -I do mine and then each page gets tagged in the corner -so page 1 becomes top left 1A, top right 1B bottom left 1C and bottom right 1D -then I cut each page into 4 so its easier to handle :rotfl:-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

lol, not much of a specialist here, I have only done the one!:rotfl:
Definitely photocopy it - Copyright allows you to make a copy for personal use, so you are fine there. I copy mine, then highlight setions I am working on, then cross off boxes as I go - my copy would be no use to anyone, but that way I have the original to pass on.
45 pages though...wow!!
Now, I am no good at working out how much thread is needed for what, (sorry) - I have evey colour in my collection so can usually get started on anything, then top up. If I was doubtful about the number of skeins required I would a) buy them anyway, knowing they were going to get used at SOME point or b) if I was short of money, I would order a couple, then place another order after a couple of months when those started running out.
Sorry - no technical numbers stuff from me:rotfl:

You will be going from lots of greens to lots of blues :rotfl:
Im like you -I wouldn't know where to start with working out how many skeins I would need -I just order what Im told to on the pattern -once I have checked I don't have them in my stash
I found that with using across town -I checked 3 patterns that I had in line to be done and making it so I could order the 200 and get them for a little less per skein-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Phew...sits down and wipes the sweat from worried brow !!
Thanks for your help Mrs M and LouiseI was just so excited, I got carried away with it all and panicked at the thought of all those threads! :rotfl:
Right off to hang out the washing and get other things done..I would quite happily spend the day with the Astronomer and preparing to get started, but I already have a busy day ahead. Oh the excruciating agony of delaying what you really want to do!

Keiss :rotfl:
Don't worry about it -I wasn't exactly sure if you had allowed for that either.....
That was some working out you had going on...far too organised and technical for me
It won't be long until you can settle down and start the astronomer will it?-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Keiss - isn't it awful when you have a hectic day just when you have a lovely new project to be getting on with - you have my sympathies!!
Ps - I'm already looking forward to seeing the progress pics of it
MRSM - Touched by Magic is 350x136 stithes so smaller then the Lake - hopefully that means I'll get it completed n half the timeI'm doing it on 14ct rather than 18ct again, so will be bigger than it should be. Dunno what it is, I just hate stitching on 18ct.

Hi ladies.
A quick question if I may....
Where would you recommend getting threads from online? I have looked back over pages of posts but I must be missing the recommendations....though in the newest posts today you mention a company called acrosstown?
I know they get cheaper the more you buy but I only want 4 colours and only a skein of each. Would an ebay seller be cheaper seeing as I only want a small amount?
Edited to add ~ Just phoned my local crafty shops in town and they are 70p & 80p per skein. Unless I can get them very cheap online I'm thinking it's probably better for me to buy them in town what with adding postage costs too?
Thanks:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
What designs are those purple??
Well, I ordered my H&E Astronomer chart from Sewalong yesterday, can't wait to get it!!! I am sewing it for my DH. I had thought "Birthday", but that is in March, so Christmas it is - hopefully 2010!
I will have "fun" sorting out the threads I will need, there's going to be lots! It is 525 x 350 stitches, and I am sewing on 28 count over 2 threads (thanks Mrs M). Think I will go with DMC as I have mostly those already. Here's hoping I have some colours already!
I plan on getting some small Christmas projects done too, so I had better look through all the UFOs, magazines and books that I have, lots of nice things for cards, bookmarks, key fobs, coasters and fridge magnets...cor...I AM getting organized...don't know how long it is going to last though! To get back into cross-stitching, I might even finish one of my Beatrix Potter UFOs...only writing to do on one of them!
I plan on doing sewing through the day when the light is better (and DH is out!) and knit in the evenings while watching TV, all very productive!
Off to check that the bread (4 loaves) has risen enough to put into the oven. Left starting it until later, kitchen was too cool most of the day (less than 12 degrees!), now I think I was just a bit too late!
Oh well, I didn't want to go to bed early tonight!
It was a design of a lady with Autumn colours I think:jPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS:j&sealed pot challenge member #885-TARGET£200DEBT FREE OLYMPIC CONTENDER #63 £7000:eek:Cross stitch UFO Thread member0
