-and they suggest that you start on the top left hand corner :undecided... I will be starting in the middle as always :p

I always start in the top left corner. Most kits and things tell me I should start in the middle but I count very carefully on the chart and fabric then always start on the top left corner. It's funny how we're all different isn't it.

I gently fold my fabric to find the centre then start stitching in the centre. I just know that however carefully I counted I wouldn't end up with enough fabric left for framing :o

While we are chatting about how we do things.....do you all follow charts exactly?
I don't and wondered what you all do.
For instance when finishing Rubys' xmas present I decided the hedgehogs back didn't look right so I added a few more stitches to 'round it off'. Also the backstitching on the hedgehogs boots, I didn't do all that the chart said to because I thought it was too much, looked too messy.

Though I imagine if I ever done a project like Louise and MRSMC is doing I wouldn't modify it at all. It wouldn't need it as its got straight edges....it's just 'wonky' edges I feel the need to tidy up :rotfl:

    Hello

I'm a lurker on this thread and have been impressed by the work I've seen - I have some way to go before I can match it :) I'm only a beginner.

I have a question. I have tried searching the forums to see if I could find any opinions but have had no luck. I hope this is the right place for it.

I was wondering if any of you had ever been to the Stitch and Craft Show in London (this year it is at Olympia 2, 18-21st March). What did you think of it? Is it any good? Were there bargains to be had? (Very important, that last point :rotfl:) I live in Manchester and was thinking that if I could find a really cheap train ticket in advance, I might go for the day. I don't want to schlep all the way down to London though if it's not worth the money! Should I just stick to going to the one which is being held at Manchester Central at the end of January?

Any opinions would be of interest! Thank you.

I am off to bed ..... perhaps tomorrow I will do some stitching rather than blobbing on the computer most of the evening!

  • Smileyt - i have been to 2 stitch and craft show before - i think they were at excel .... it depends what you want there as to if there are bargins. sometime its nice just to look at all the stuff....when i first went i had only been stitching for a few months i think so didn't have a lot of stuff and realise all these forums / facebook pages, etc all existed so it was nice to find out about fabric pens, different shape and size hoops, light magnifiers, stitch count rulers, ect and you can get some kits at good prices although i would not say they were cheap ! :( .. just remember it is a Stitch AND CRAFT show and i found that there was more craft stalls then stitching stalls so only about 5 / 6 stalls actually with cross stitch stuff .

it makes for a good day out though so if you have the money to spare its nice for the experience of going and seeing whats around and what you "need" :D .. i think the 1st one i went to i managed to spend £50 (or it might have been more like £100) :)

I'm terrible for following the chart exactly and get pretty irked if I've done a bit 'wrong' that I can't re-done but have to fix.

When I did a made from scratch one in my software I did make amendments as I went along, as I'm new at creating my own charts. :o

    Morning everyone

    This weeks update.....
    Last week :-

    This week :-
    forest22jan2010.th.jpg

Im getting there :j....I would have got more done but Im "dawgy sitting" this week and I have been up n down letting her in and out (far too cold to leave the door open like I normally would :()....

I have to confess to altering things that I think are wrong on a chart -although sometimes its not on purpose :rotfl:
My celtic ladies all looked pregnant on the charts -so I "slimmed them down" -if only it were that easy in real life :p....
oh and on this one Im on now -there was 1 red wing on the left side of the pic (from where it has been lifted from the bigger version) -now it would have irritated me having a "splodge" -so I have replaced it with the tree colours -and you can't tell :T. Oh and my biggest "alterations" come when there is backstitch involved -I think that often there is far too much -and it looks messy -so I add what I think looks right,
*Louise* - good old hubby :T -what a diamond....
Right ....off to make another cuppa and then I will get on with a bit more... have a great day everyone :D
